krikket -> missiles fro N. Korea? (7/4/2006 1:34:02 PM)

i know we don't do political stuff on here very much, but the news is full of how NK sent non-war head short range missiles into the Sea of Japan -- as a test or an attention -- either way.. it scares me spitless.

pahunkboy -> RE: missiles fro N. Korea? (7/4/2006 1:47:28 PM)

i dont think it is much to worry about. i am more concerned with the ruling elite run amok. the corps and neocons... legislating the pilfirarage of the US treasurey....that will leave us holding the bag.

we are SO FCCKED.

it is more likely that the current telecom bill will pass- and end Internet Nuetrality-----

Level -> RE: missiles fro N. Korea? (7/4/2006 3:35:17 PM)

The North Koreans fired anywhere from 3 to 4 missiles. 2 were short range scud type missles that landed in the Sea of Japan, and 1long range missile that failed 40 seconds after launch. The mad bastard ruling North Korea is hurrying all of this along while we're in Iraq, thinking we're stretched too thin to oppose him.

In order to launch missiles, North Korea has to send them towards Japan; what if one of the missiles had accidently hit Japan? We would be in a major crisis.....

A bigger one than when the NK's admitted they had kidnapped a number of Japanese citizens so they could staff a spy school to train agents how to behave in Japan?

I don't really think the twirp really worries about crises.

Bush takes the NK threat so seriously that he's been moving troops out of SK to Iraq.

pahunkboy -> RE: missiles fro N. Korea? (7/4/2006 3:46:46 PM)

NK just wants attention.

tecnically we are STILL at war with NK- a peace treaty was neveer signed.

The twirp is nuts lol. I'm not sure what his thought process is.

Maybe nothing much would have happened if a missile had hit; but I wonder.

And I wonder if Bush would have moved troops back to South Korea if the long range missile had been a success?

When I was teaching in Tianjin, several of the other faculty were NKs.  They were very frightning people.  Just the looks they gave me when we were first introduced (they then turned their backs on me) was enough for me to purchase several fighting knives and keep them on my person.

They all dressed alike (in a time when the Chinese had left behind the "green ant look") and all wore buttons with the picture of the Gentle Leader on them.

It is a scary country a very scary country

Yeah, I'm leaving for Seoul in two weeks and will be there till August.  I never thought about it much till now.  Not the greatest time to be going to Seoul...

Be careful, Lam. And if you see this guy, shoot first and ask questions later. Maybe blame it on LROD [:D].

Who is Kim Jong Il? - from CNN.com

Lordandmaster -> RE: missiles fro N. Korea? (7/4/2006 7:56:04 PM)

Heh...he's not supposed to know I'm going to be there.  I just hope the fucking plans don't change.

MistressLorelei -> RE: missiles fro N. Korea? (7/4/2006 8:04:57 PM)

I don't think North Korea is much of a threat to the U.S.  Besides, North Korea could blow up Japan, and it's doubtful Bush would care.  Iran is where the oil is.

SusanofO -> RE: missiles fro N. Korea? (7/4/2006 8:52:46 PM)

Kim Jong Il is a true sociopath; I sometimes wish someone would just assassinate him and get it over with. I really am surpirsed, given that he is starving his population, that someone has not done this already. All we can do is pray and hope for the best.

I am not a huge fan of Geroge Bush's administration, but I do partly understand why he  may have wanted the rest of the world to know we don't mess with nut cases - and Kim Jong Il is one.

Ah yes... me too. The neocons and their police-state-mentality scare me a ton more than some little five-foot six-inch geek who collects American cars, wears elevator shoes and likes blondes. He'd be slapped down in a heartbeat if he were a real threat. Not to mention.... any advances in guidance technology or the actual warhead came from us selling the most sophisticated ''super computers'' and national security secrets /technology to both Israel and the Chinese during the Clinton era.

I just read the other day that they are testing a new ''drone'' that is virtually invisible in both day and night, and is almost ''noiseless.''  What would it do for the psyche to know that wherever you go, there could be one of those flying above with a bead on the building or car you are in? Kim is no threat at all - He just wants money and more blondes.

I have to disagree that North Korea isn't a risk; they have the fourth largest army on earth, poised on the border of one of our primary allies. Could we prevail in a war with them? Yes, but it would likely be goddamed bloody.... almost 55,000 Americans died in the first Korean war.

So, a risk to taking over the United States? No. But a risk as far as costing thousands and thousands of lives, you bet.

pahunkboy -> RE: missiles fro N. Korea? (7/5/2006 4:12:50 AM)

now i am getting mad over ths soundbite!  [cnn, fox]

i switched to cspan. repeating it over and over-doesnt tell me anything new or constructive.

pahunkboy -> RE: missiles fro N. Korea? (7/5/2006 4:14:26 AM)

with bush acting like a loose cannon, it isnt shocking to see another leader taken up this same behaviour.

Level -> RE: missiles fro N. Korea? (7/5/2006 4:26:48 AM)

pahunk, Kim Jong Il has acted this way far before Bush ever came to office.

meatcleaver -> RE: missiles fro N. Korea? (7/5/2006 4:50:28 AM)

This is reported in Europe as though it is no more than a spat between N Korea and the US with Japan a little jumpy on the sidelines and China a little pissed at N Korea testing without its approval.

It all seems a million miles away from here, which of course it isn't in this much smaller, modern world.

pahunkboy -> RE: missiles fro N. Korea? (7/5/2006 4:52:47 AM)

hi Level, yes kim is a nut even before bush.

a caller on cspan said bush cut funding for shield there- alot of military assets are in HI, so they are worried there.

seeing how the US govt obstructed aid to Katrina- ild say the govt is top heavy. the people sent help and lots of it. teh feds voided it, disallowed it.  is this what govt is?? even a walmart semi full of water did not get thru!!
