The duck which Tiggerspoobear refers to was actually a DUK(w) a world war two vehicle also known as an amphibious jeep. The only one that I know of that sank used for tourists was hit by another vessel, in Phillie I believe. If properly maintained, the DUK is actually a very sea worthy craft, and harder than you would imagine to sink. As for something like that in my home town, I live in West Texas, with the Salt Fork of the Brazos river north of town, which has water in it (above ground) only after heavy rains where the river rises. Lake Fort Phantom was built to help supply the town with water, then the power plant was built there, which keeps the water pretty warm, promoting the growth of some rather disgusting bottom plants and promoting the growth of some awesome catfish, 40 pounds is considered small coming out of that lake. The city trolly system was taken out of service in the 30's, and the tracks paved over, which worked until the 60's when the pavement was worn down to let the tracks show through. But no water taxis. And if the drought goes much longer, we may not have water.
