Because it's awesome. It's funny, and touching and you will want to move in! I'd watch it just for the sets and the costumes alone! It's really magnificent.
It can be a bit cheesy I suppose, but I really do like the characters, and enjoy watching them evolve. (or devolve as the case may be!)

It's almost time!!!

Well, what did everybody think?? I'm so glad it's back. I'm also glad that the seasons are so short, just 8 episodes?

Why watch? I personally like it for the style.
Both the costumes and Highclere(?) Castle. The whole Upstairs /downstairs thing is interesting too. I find it funny that the Grantham's can't seem to dress themselves.

I loved it! It was exactly right. ("practically perfect in every way" as Miss Poppins would say)

dcnovice -> RE: "Downton Abbey" Returns! (1/6/2014 7:53:25 PM)

Talking tonight with a friend who loves his husband dearly but also seeks more intense kink, I learned that he sometimes sneaks out on Sunday nights to a local bondage club.

Care to guess my immediate response?

(a) "Careful, friend. You're playing with fire."

(b) "Would your husband be open to threesomes? They might be a way to add spice without sneaking."

(c) "You're missing Downton Abbey?!"

I'm chagrined to say that the answer is indeed (c).

*sigh*
Oh to be in those times....

I absolutely loved it! I'm just so happy it's back on.

Blonderfluff -> RE: "Downton Abbey" Returns! (1/7/2014 5:25:47 PM)

I must say. I loved the season premier. The only thing that seemed sort of -random- was the whole nanny storyline. Didn't it seem like it had nothing to do with anything?

MistressDarkArt -> RE: "Downton Abbey" Returns! (1/7/2014 6:38:03 PM)

^^^That's what I thought too. Though I have to say I was shocked when she called the elder child a 'vile little half-breed' or words to that effect.

dcnovice -> RE: "Downton Abbey" Returns! (1/7/2014 6:40:24 PM)

Come to think of it, that was pretty random.

I'm also irked at the sole gay character's being such an asshat.

MistressDarkArt -> RE: "Downton Abbey" Returns! (1/7/2014 6:47:40 PM)

I guess asshattery knows no orientation, dc. [8D]

Argh. He is such a slimeball. I keep waiting for him to have his " I am redeemed " storyline. At least O'Brien is gone. Speaking of, that was abrupt !!

As was the children's nanny!! Wow

Yep. That does indeed grate and I'm a bit surprised that it got past the controllers.

With the class distinctions over there, I wouldn't have thought the Nanny's attitude all that unheard of. Plus, how often have the Granthams sacked anybody? Not all the servants can be wonderful.

As far as Barrow being an asshat, he does have some kinder moments. And good riddance to O'Brien! I would imagine that sort of scheming behavior wouldn't be put up with ad infinitum.

I think it was a way to get evil Joffrey (oh wait, wrong show!) evil whatshisname back in the good graces of the family again, so he could continue to sow the seeds of disharmony and mistrust.

ChatteParfaitt -> RE: "Downton Abbey" Returns! (1/8/2014 7:02:57 AM)

I loved it, I'm a big fan of the show.

I wish the nanny story line could have been played out more.

And what does everyone think of the new lady's maid?

There's trouble there for sure.

Blonderfluff -> RE: "Downton Abbey" Returns! (1/8/2014 7:09:05 AM)

CP
I KNOW! She's already trying to get Anna in trouble. ~~~~grr~~~~~

ETA- I forget what she did a few seasons ago to get O'Brien to write her a recommendation letter. Does anyone remember ?

xxblushesxx -> RE: "Downton Abbey" Returns! (1/8/2014 7:33:22 AM)

She was starting an affair with the deceased sister's husband. (sorry, I can't keep up with everyone's name) So they wanted her out of there ASAP before any more shenanigans could take place.

Ahhhh!! That's right!! Uh oh. This is gonna get goooood.
