So your argument has now changed from a scriptural one to a constitutional/ governmental one? Ok. Helping the poor helps the country. That is not a Christian value. It just makes sense to use our tax dollars to "promote the general welfare" of the people which is one of the primary reasons why the constitution was ordained and established. This has veered off topic since its not about church so I will stop here rather than aggravate the mods. But like you said earlier is not our spiritual beliefs that really differ its our political beliefs. PS- Concerning soup with a fork- you haven't tasted my mom's EPIC homemade soup! Definitely a forker! quote:
ORIGINAL: Phydeaux MJ : you don't eat soup with a fork. Governments are meant to govern. The founders believed that the best governments were ones that did the least. The institute of christian values by our government means that we would also be ok if satanic values were instituted when they became the majority. No. Administer government according to the values we've agreed to - the powers enumerated in the constitution. quote:
ORIGINAL: MsMJAY Of course when Caesar was the govnt we could say that it would be abrogating our responsibilities. Today we are the government. We seem to remember that at other times but forget it when it comes to charity. When the government helps the poor, we are helping the poor and thereby living up to some of our responsibilities in that regard. quote:
ORIGINAL: Phydeaux Theologically we are similar MJ. Politically we are opposite. While I believe the teachings of Christ, when Christ said render to Caesar what is caesars, think we cannot (and should not) attempt the abrogration of our responsibilities to the government. quote:
ORIGINAL: MsMJAY What??? I have to give my stuff away to those nasty poor people???? I got it! I'll just worship Jesus as God. That way I don't have to actually follow any of His teachings! (and I get to keep my stuff) quote:
ORIGINAL: mnottertail I believe jeebus said also, And he answered them, “Whoever has two tunics is to share with him who has none, and whoever has food is to do likewise.” But here it is, and nobody is watching that. And note that he did not say that the sabbath was changed, he kept it, as did his disciples. And since he is the lord of the sabbath and he didn't change it, looks like some beelzebub and shit goin on all over that rotten motherfuckin bit of deviltry. So, a church is brick and mortar. yeah.
