Right now I'm reading Lies My Teacher Told Me by James Loewen. Definitely not the genre I prefer, as I prefer fiction, in particular science fiction and fantasy, but I attended one of the author's lectures. He was engaging and informative so I decided to buy his book.

Eat, Move, Sleep (I think that was a Kalikshama recommendation) and the new Martin Cruz Smith, plus a few other non fics I pop in and out of periodically.

I've just started The Waterproof Bible (Andrew Kaufman) and An Astronaut's Guide to Life on Earth which is the autobiography of Chris Hadfield, the Canadian Astronaut. Both too early to decide what I think.

I've just finished The Incorrigible Children of Ashton Place, which I can't recommend, but since it's young adult I doubt many of you would be considering it anyway.


Everything.

I read everything.

There isn't a good, better or best...read.

It's all good...words are fabulous.

I'm reading old science fiction multipacks that Amazon sells for .99 each. I read over 300 words a minute so a 500+ book doesn't take more than a couple of days.

Back before the kindle, I used to go to the library and take out ten books at a time, their max. And I could do that a couple of times a week. But I was younger and stronger and didn't mind the steep uphill climb from the parking lot to the library.

Just finished re-reading Naked In Death by J. D. Robb. The first from her In Death series. Going through the list now, the joys of e-books at the library in town. I too prefer a real book, but was always late returning them. This way, auto return is much easier, no fines.

Now onto Battlefront: USA vs Militia book 2 by Ian Slater. Received the latest John Clancy trade paperback as a Christmas gift. Bought myself a Bathroom Reader's Institute Big Book of Facts. And of course there's the website I get free e-books every day, ebookshabit.com.

What can I say, I have a voracious appetite when it comes to reading everything from fiction to non, horror, spy, mystery, thriller, suspense, other worldly, bios, magazines, etc. If I'm desperate enough I'll even read bodice rippers not that there's anything wrong with those [;)]. But there isn't much worry of that in the last few years.

Currently going:

The Right Thing To Say by Miss Manners. I find her 'third person' speak both stuffy and hilarious. She actually has quite a good sense of humor.

Audiobook: Our Superstitious Minds: The 7 Laws of Magical Thinking by Matthew Hutson.

Still working on 'Les Miserables.'* The style of this translation is very dense.

'Cormyr: A Novel' : A friend dropped off a bunch of AD&D novels and they are nice light bed-time reading. Especially after wading through the other books.

'Elements of C Style' : Programming in the C language so that other people can read it. Personally I don't care that much. If it was hard to write it should be impossible to understand. Why do you think they call it 'code?'

'Beauty's Release' : I've read the series before, but I found a full ~hardcover~ set of the trilogy for $12.00 at a used bookstore. Had to buy it. Not a big fan of the male scenes but the ones with Beauty in it give me some very naughty feelings.

*This isn't the version you read in school. This is the unexpurgated first translation from French to English. A lot of it is still in French and there are footnotes explaining the French puns. It's about 1700 pages long, or about as long as two George R.R. Martin novels.

Time And Relative Dissertations In Space, a big collection of critical essays on Doctor Who.
Namedrops for Todorov and Suvin so far, but that's a much healthier end of critical theory than all of the deconstructionist stuff.

My daughter just got an incredible late Christmas present of a huge picture book called 'Zoo-ology' by Joelle Jolivet. It's packed with beautiful drawings of all manner of animals; somehow both stylized and realistic at once. We spent ages pouring over it together and it's now gone into our 'only for looking at with a grown-up' category for extra-special books that we want to last forever.

Wow. I think I'm the only picture book nerd here, but I thought I'd mention it on the off chance that anyone is about to buy a gift for a young child.

I was just like you. Then my son forced my hand, and bought me a kindle a few years ago.
Well. When I moved, the sheer volume of books I had to either move, sell, or give away was enough to make me a complete convert.

There is only one bookstore within a 25 mi radius. Part of what I love about books was the bookstores, and browsing, reading and bringing them home. If I have to shop online, I'd rather have instant gratification.

Just finished two books:

Nate Jackson's Slow Getting Up: A Story of NFL Survival from the Bottom of the Pile. I'm not a football fan by any stretch of the imagination, but this gave insight into the highs and lows of a pro football player.

Michael Connelly's The Black Box. I absolutely adore the Detective Harry Bosch stories and this one delivered once again for me.

I adore Connelly's "Lincoln Lawyer" and "Void Moon," but for some reason I don't like the Bosch books as much. I know the LL books are in first person POV, but I don't think that would be enough to make the difference.
