Racism is alive and well in USA.

During the filming of "24 Hours" Kiefer Sutherland was charged with cocaine abuse. However, they didn't kick him off the show.

I don't watch or like American Idol and I am generally very quick to call out racism when I see it........BUT.......almost of all of these guys have arrest records. The show is looking for "idols." They need marketable people with good reputations.

By the time Kiefer Southerland was arrested, he was an accomplished actor who had already made a name for himself and was starring in a hit show.

(The fact that he is totally HOT didn't hurt.)[sm=hearts.gif]

Those guys from American Idol were nobodies with questionable talent trying to get famous.

BTW- AI has had 12 seasons and 4 African American winners. That is a third of the winners. Not racist.

what would Fox have had left of that show (24) had they kicked Sutherland off the popular show when he was portraying the main character and he was already a star (not simply a star wannabe).. seriously, wouldn't that be like Fox shooting themselves in the foot and shoving suitcases of money out the window?.. imo your comparison is one of apples and oranges.. just sayin' (I don't watch either show)

The very fact that you consider this racism proves that you are right.
However I suggest you look in the mirror for its source.

In just 45 posts, you have mentioned racism in several of them, including one post blaming racism from keeping you from getting a job. I think it is something that you might be obsessed with.

You keep track of how many posts I've had and how many I've mentioned racism in. I think you might be obsessed with me. :)

The number of posts is listed. It was just an observation.

Lorraine, you're kidding right?
You don't (really) think that Keifer Sutherland is an ..."actor" do you?
He's like the boss's son. He gets the job no matter what.

Lucylastic -> RE: American Idol Racism Lawsuit (1/13/2014 8:50:08 AM)

FR
While Im well aware racism is alive and kicking and vicious in its ugliness.
This situation I would want to know a LOT more before I agree.
I would want to know how many other people were kicked out because of criminal proceedings, of any colour.
I dont see an issue with criminal background checks for everyone, its a show called "american idol" not american criminal. If they only checked black contestants, that would to me, be well out of order.
If there IS just a focus on "black" contestants, then I think there needs to be more info, more questions, more action towards stopping it.
They are contestants in an elimination program, not established money makers in their own right. I really dont like Keifer, I mean I have never watched 24 simply because he is in it.
But he is a well established actor, with decades of acting under his belt. hollywood elite? maybe, I dont care, but the "network" has money invested in him and his LONG career.
Im not saying its right, but I think that is a huge difference in reason why they might want to keep him as opposed to the ten from Idol.

OsideGirl -> RE: American Idol Racism Lawsuit (1/13/2014 8:50:23 AM)

So, let's see:

You're comparing a bunch of people that lied when they signed a contract that said that they had no criminal background with an accomplished actor/producer not being thrown off of his own show.....and calling it racism.

I noticed that too.

thishereboi -> RE: American Idol Racism Lawsuit (1/13/2014 8:54:15 AM)

While I totally agree that there are still racist asshats running around I don't see how this fits in with it. Now I am really sorry that the past actions of these people screwed up their big chance on the show but I don't see that it was anything more than that. And I am really having a hard time figuring out what Keifers actions have to do with it at all.

The courts will decide if black contestants and white contestants were both subject to the same polices. I didn't read anywhere that NO white contestants were dropped when criminal activity was made known. If some white contestants have the same criminal backgrounds and were dropped for the same reasons then there is no discrimination.

As to comparing Sutherland with the contestants, this is like comparing apples with bananas. Yes they are both fruit but each is completely different and handled in a different way. Sutherland is the star of a long running series. The contestants are nobodies trying to get a toe into a door that might make them a star some day. If they do become a star of a long running hit TV series and get caught with cocaine, I'd bet the network wouldn't cancel their long running series.

Sutherland is listed as a producer on the show, as well.

This one was dropped but it wasn't due to criminal activity. Now sure why they even mentioned her now that I think about it but they did...

""Idol" also disqualified Season 8’s Joanna Pacitti, a white woman, when it was revealed that she had close ties with two executives at 19 Entertainment, the company that produces the show along with FremantleMedia."

anniezz338 -> RE: American Idol Racism Lawsuit (1/13/2014 9:15:37 AM)

I am confused how asking about arrest histories is a violation of California employment laws. Here in Texas, that is the first thing they ask about and can also ask about credit reports.

I was under the impression AI asked all contestants about their arrest histories. I see no frack about white contestants suing AI for anything. The only thing these 10 contestants have in common is they all have arrest records and they are all African American. Must be nice to have a race card to play for 25 million each. I feel it is racist that I will never have that option.

PeonForHer -> RE: American Idol Racism Lawsuit (1/13/2014 9:20:15 AM)

Conviction records are one thing and employers have a right to ask about them in some circumstances. Arrest records are quite another thing, though. At least, that's how it works in the UK - rightly so, in my opinion.

Carly Smithson had been promoted onto the Hollywood portion when she was removed because she didn't have a visa to be in the United States.

They do. It's part of the contract that they sign when the get to the Hollywood portion. (Along with very strong nondisclosure clauses)

I remember the cocaine charges against him while filming "24 Hours." The judge gave him a very lenient 6 months sentence. To top it off, they allowed him to continue filming until the season was completed. Then he served his time. They then let him out early. The USA justice system is unfair. I can start another thread pointing out how the Justice System gives harsher crimes to minorities than whites.

Oh I see!
When it comes to crack or powder I don't think there should be a differance.
Twenty years mandatory for either.
You get caught again it's life without parole.
