Come to think of it, we don't have any SYG laws in Britain, yet I can't recall a single instance here when 'a group of home invaders took a whole family captive, tortured them and killed most of them'. Not once, in the whole of history. Obviously this can't be because British people are less savage and primitive than Americans - so what can possibly explain it? How on *earth* did we survive as a nation without those crucial SYG laws?

Oh dont be so silly bruv....... You know full well that we use SYG very effectively during a row.

Shut Yer Gob works wonders here, and nary a bullet it sight.

You can keep making up incorrect definitions of 'a reasonable person' and of 'psychopath' all you want, the law isn't going to change itself to suit you.

You are right about the law, Ed, but the discussion here was about the brain/hormone physiology that 'triggered' the Old Warrior's quick response. If the frontal cortex surrenders executive control he was not acting 'willfully' and I wonder about the degrees of responsibility. Not saying society should not be protected from him.

I saw where you brought that up, and I agree... I always suspect a certain percentage of 'feared for my life' claims were more like panic disproportionate to the actual threat.

Here, there is so little to go on, that I can plug in either side and guess that the prosecutor will either have a hard time proving what was in the shooter's mind, or will have a slam dunk.

Either way, it remains to be seen,

Has it been substantiated that Oulsen initiated the violence? Has it been determined what exact words were exchanged before the upheaval of popcorn? It has been said that Reeves returned to his seat in an angry manner, did he verbally threaten Oulsen or possibly toss a Goober at Oulsens head first? We will only know one side of the story, that of Reeves but there is nothing that man can say that will ever make me believe that he felt such an eminent threat on his life to justify the shooting.

Yes there has never been any question except from you that the first act of violence came from Oulsen.
Do you know for a fact that the popcorn wasn't to distract Reeves from the real attack, that would be the only reason I would throw
popcorn in someone's face.

As far as it not being unreasonable for him not to see the post, that's a bit hard to swallow seeing how it was not his first time in the theater. Could that alone be the reason that he had his handgun "concealed" in his pocket?

No he has a concealed carry permit, that would be the reason the gun was concealed.
The sign at our theater banning open carry had been up a couple of months before I actually read it so it is not at all hard to swallow.
Do you read every piece of paper on the walls of the theater every time you go in?

Yes

Perhaps on this forum I may be the only one who questions the first act of violence being that of the popcorn being thrown. I'm throwing possibilities out there just as everyone else the only exception being, I'm not giving any grace to Reeves. He is the one who took a life, in my opinion unreasonably, so yes, I am going to speculate and dissect every thing.

As a gun carrier, I am very much aware when I enter an establishment on what their policies are and as a patron I abide by their policies. I don't know, call me crazy, I just call it being responsible and aware.

edited for spelling.

We have a gas station I no longer patronize for that reason.

As that is your prerogative to do so, just as what I stated above is mine.

That's fine. Just don't get pissy with people who apply exactly the same standards in pushing their perspective.

Chad Oulson was being a shit in the theater, and when called on it, he chose to argue and get snotty, and he did it with entirely the wrong person. Oops.

I wouldn't want to sit near either of them, if I went out to a movie.

DominantWoman65 -> RE: Death penalty for being an asshole (1/18/2014 10:48:56 AM)

Who's getting pissy?

Have I been disrespectful to anyone? No, I haven't
Have I typed in capital letters anywhere out of anger to get my point across? No
Have I called anyone names or verbally attacked anyone on this post? No

In fact I have apologized several times in a response when I made an error in my posts.

I thought I was debating.

Either that, or he chose to retaliate when some cranky old fart started having a go at him, of course.

And again, Moon, I'm not the least bit surprised to find you pulling for the guy who decided to throw popcorn in the face of a pensioner.

Don't let em get you upset. A few people use ad homonym comments when they lack anything credible to say.

Case in point . . . [sm=LMAO.gif]

DominantWoman65 -> RE: Death penalty for being an asshole (1/18/2014 4:12:12 PM)

Thank you. It takes a little more than words on a screen to get me hot around the collar, it surprised me though. I wasn't aware that having a different view point and degree of questions equated to being pissy.

Dear oh dear Rich. I suspect like me Moonie is pulling for the dead guy who was shot while going to the cinema with his wife. While I am at it, I am also pulling for the 4 year old shot by her 4 year old cousin recently. Oh, and add the family slaughtered by their police officer relative in todays news.

He's cranky b/c Benghazi and the IRS have not resulted in scandals. Hopefully this awful incident will have a chilling effect on phone use in movie theaters.

DominantWoman65 -> RE: Death penalty for being an asshole (1/18/2014 5:34:08 PM)

I'm sure it will and rightfully so, but I am also hoping a good conviction will send a message too.
