Well, due to the continuing crisis with scandals in Washington and President Pantload suffering from degenerative amnesia and now a growing "King" syndrome Father Popeye will take the confessions of those who voted for President P.L.
And that goes for you Protestants too (you guys used to be Catholic way back)
And for you Jewish people the penance would be to sing the Kol Nidre 3 times. (In Key!)
Confession is good for the soul, we all go astray.
"Forgive me Father for I have sinned."
"What did you do my child?"
"I voted for Obama!"
"A Mortal sin!"
"Ok, my child, for your penance say ten Hail Larrys, The Lord's Prayer ten times and,....seek out one of those sweat ceremonies with the Order of First Nation. That should cleanse your soul and body.
Ok, who wants to confess.....

FR:
As a catholic and an atheist, I find the spectacle of an internet troll having the cheek to call himself "the reverend father popeye" deeply offensive, if only because that means he's claiming to be a catholic priest and an anglican vicar simultaneously.

I'd also question why the alleged clergyman had no problem with the chimp displaying the same "King" syndrome he finds so offensive coming from a Kenyan Democrat.

Huh?

How can you be a Catholic and an atheist at the same time? The two would seem to be mutually exclusive.
But then, what do I know. I'm an Agnostic.

Yep

And not bearing false witness is one of the Commandments.

Apparently posting on the internet is equal to buying indulgences though.

If I recall, didn't Dante tell of a special circle in Hell for buyers and sellers of Indulgences? We're all in trouble!

No, no indulgences, Father Popeye is here to take confessions from those who've strayed from "The Way" and gotten themselves involved with bealzibub and voted for one of his demons.

Catholicism is a power structure as much as a religion. I was baptised, so I remain a Catholic until I'm excommunicated or they bury me. My beliefs have fuck all to do with that.

Are you sure that's how it works? I was baptized and I spent four years at a Catholic school but I am most definitely not a Catholic. I am not even a Christian since I don't believe in Yahweh.
I do think of myself as a christian (small c) by which I mean I acknowledge the fact that I was born into and grew up in a society heavily influenced by Christianity so I suppose you could also
consider me a small c catholic in that I can go through the motions of being a Catholic when necessary (marriages, funerals, etc). I seriously doubt that the Catholic church would ever regard me as one of them.
So, yeah, if you're a small c catholic I guess you could be a catholic and an atheist at the same time. Still seems like an oxymoron though.

You seem harsher than before I took my Collarme vacation. Should I be worried?

once a thief always a thief.
once a catholholic always a catholholic.

I think this is more a matter for some Fundy-types who can cast out the demons.

Heritic, funny you should say that, Sister Mary Suffering Bastard mentioned that yesterday.

no it works as Moonhead said, if you are baptized the catholic church will always consider you part of it, during catechism to explain this case was always used the parable of the prodigal son.

Geysers of massive stupidity and prejudices having nothing to do with anything from a man who cannot spell reverend.  I don't think I will bother reading this dogshit.

In that context "Catholic" is nothing more than a label others are placing upon you. Absent any real belief in Catholic doctrine it is meaningless. To believe in Catholic doctrine (to be a large C Catholic, in other words)
is to believe in the existence of God (in the case of Catholics, a particular god named Yahweh). To declare oneself an Atheist is to - BY DEFINITION - declare that you do not believe in the existence of any god. However
I know many people who call themselves believers and go through the motions of their belief without any real conviction behind it. They go through the motions because that is what they have always done. It is how they were raised . . .

[SIDEBAR: I am in complete agreement with Richard Dawkins in that there is no such thing as a "Christian baby" or a "Muslim baby" etc. They are babies born to Christian or Muslim parents who will be indoctrinated into
their parents belief structure.]

. . . and it doesn't occur to them to act any differently or, if it does occur, they continue on because they are comfortable with it and/or because of social pressures. Such people are, I believe, Atheists (or at least Agnostics) at heart.
So, I accept that a person could walk around calling themselves (and/or being labeled by others as) a Catholic while still being an Atheist. But to be a true believer in any religion precludes being an Atheist and vice versa.
