I think it is actually logical and good idea. American voter is one of the dumbest and easy to manipulate. Personal likability has huge impact. I argue this was the major factor why Obama won 2008. Imagine Romney and a reptoid H. Clinton being the two American public will be presented for selection: both centrist liberals???

mnottertail -> RE: Mitt Romney (1/22/2014 11:16:33 AM)

well, there are no conservatives anywhere.  so you got reptoid or fucking pure slime.

To the OP

What a load.

Here is what nobody wants to say about the Romney loss. The right won't admit it, because too many don't want to offend the fundies, and the left needs to pretend that Obama and their base have the market cornered.

What kept President Obama in the White House was bigotry. The fundamentalist Christians wouldn't vote for a Mormon. Not enough of them anyway. It's right there in the turnout numbers.

Yep, its more or less what I said. 7 million evangelicals stayed home, in places like ohio, florida, colorado.

Interesting hypothesis.

It raises the question, though, of how McCain, who is not a Mormon, also lost to Obama.

Siss, you obviously forgot Mike Dukakis and his Lt. Gov. John "French" Kerry who got into office and promptly started shredding the "Massachusetts Miracle."
All they had to do was just LEAVE THINGS THE FUCK ALONE and everything would have been alright!
And this "Duval" pos, there have never been more people on welfare than under him in Massachusett's history. And that includes ILLEGAL ALIENS!

That might have been something to do with caribou Barbie, perhaps?

'08 was a whole different thing, DC. Obama wasn't a candidate, he was a phenomenon.

I have not seen the film, but as I see it, the problem was never really Mitt Romney, the problem was Mitt Romney being saddled with the current incantation of the Republican Party. One need only think back to fiasco of the Republican primaries with Herman Cain, Rick Santorum, Newt Gingrich, and Michelle Bachman.

I haven't seen it yet either, but did they "forget" to mention Ron Paul? I know the doc is ostensibly about Romney, but it can't tell the whole story without at least noting the Ron Paul phenomenon.

The film "MITT" is being released this week, an inside Portrayal of Romney and his two presidential bids. Several reviews have noted how the "human, likeable" Mitt was never put before the voting public -- the idea being that if the American people saw him in such a light -- they would have voted for him. There is even talk of the Republican establishment asking him back to run for President in 2016. The "real" Mitt could have vanquished Obama.
On top of that is the crazy base that gets so energized for the primaries.
How exactly can you appeal to the Republican base to win the Presidential nomination and then after that try to appeal to all Americans in the general election?
In the primaries you have to:
(1) Hate on Government as you seek the office of running it;
(2) Hate on Immigration as the country's demographics are shifting;
(3) Hate of gays because the bible say's they are sinners;
(4) Advocate policies that enrich the elite (tax cuts-deregulation, etc.) while claiming they help Joe-the-plumber;
(5) Deny global warming and other problems;
(6) Have no proposals for exploding health care costs, environmental protections, public transportation, and income inequality;
(7) Distance yourself from the failed policies of the Bush Administration (Tax cuts, deregulation, over-militarization) while advocating for more of the same.

"Hate" is the wrong word.

(1) Wanting to limit government doesn't bar one from running for government.
(2) Wanting to end illegal immigration doesn't mean one wants to end legal immigration. Any proof that the GOP is against legal immigration?
(3) Can't have politicians actually stick to a moral code, can we? And, it's not against homosexuals, but homosexuality.
(4) Before the Recession, were Federal income tax revenues higher or lower than pre-2001 recessions? How much of the Federal Income tax burden was shouldered by "the rich" in those two time frames?
(5) Who is denying global warming or climate change?
(6) When the metric is that they have to pass something the Democrat Senate will pass, you're right. But, that's not exactly the best metric to use...
(7) How much has Obama changed?

You are of course ignoring the basic premise that cloudboy is putting forth :namely,that any Republican hopeful needs to move too far right to win the primary thereby hobbling himself in the general
funny how the right never wants to address this simple equation

He did run on jobs, but the people on the government dole have it so good that they don't want to go back to work. They voted for Obama to keep the gravy train running.

Bullshit....people on the Government dole are barely making ends meet
This right wing fantasy that the living is easy for those in need of help is nothing more than right wing bullshit....fed to their own "low information" voters and gobbled up by the likes of you

tweakabelle -> RE: Mitt Romney (1/23/2014 4:46:19 PM)

I don't know about the situation in the USA, but here in Oz, the weekly unemployment benefit is c$250. The going rate for a share in a reasonable two bedroom apartment in a reasonable area is roughly $250. So a single person on the dole would be able to afford to pay the rent with zero cash left over for utilities, food clothes phone etc.

How all these welfare queens can keep their Cadillacs on the road or afford to purchase their mink coats with welfare stamps is beyond me!

Pay attention, the next time I decide to post on the subject. I'm not going to provide anyone with a how-to though.

Or Google Octomom, and see how she was trying to work it.

Lucylastic -> RE: Mitt Romney (1/23/2014 6:29:54 PM)

I wouldnt bother then Rich because using octomom as an example of a welfare queen is like saying donald trump is an example of a radical libbie.
such benevolence, is sure to come back n bite you

(3) Can't have politicians actually stick to a moral code, can we? And, it's not against homosexuals, but homosexuality.

Two thoughts:

(a) I've yet to see a politician "stick" to other key parts of that "moral code."

(b) The "homosexuals" vs. "homosexuality" distinction is either deeply cynical or unspeakably naïve. "We're not against you, so long as you're not your true self."

TheHeretic -> RE: Mitt Romney (1/23/2014 7:28:17 PM)

Maybe you missed it Lucy, but Octomom is an excellent example for welfare fraud, given that she was just indicted over her unreported income, and is facing better then 5 years in prison.

Granted, she was incredibly stupid in thinking she was going to get away with it, given her level of public exposure (pun absolutely intended).
