Full credit goes to role-playing for getting my then vanilla husband to let me dominate him sexually (hehehe). He mostly did as I wanted as it was, but had balked when it came to the bedroom. At first we took turns with our roles, but he really stunk at getting into his role(s) and needed so much direction, that it was fairly easy for me to take over, much to his relief. It wasn't long before he started to get into being sexually submissive to me. Our role play was integral to this process.

During our ordinary interactions, this became our cue or flirtatious foreplay with one another, and it always got me in the mood for our erotic interludes. As long as he was getting more sex out of the deal, this suited him just fine.

I think for some couples role playing is a way to get over inhibitions, do stuff without guilt that their "usual selves" just wouldn't do... Or creating an erotic atmosphere that ties into what they want to do.

Like everything, great if it works for you, if it doesn't, find something else...
