There is no question in my mind, I would love to have been and maybe could have been a concert soloist. I started at 9 with my father's best friend in HS who was a graduate of Julliard and by 10, when I was concertmaster of the combined 7th & 11th Jr. district orch. going up against 15-16 year old students, I was supposed to go too. They both coincidentally went to Cooley High. Anybody recall ? I saw my teacher drink 10-12 beers and not hit a wrong note.

My teacher had going for him the fact that he had 5 students graduate Julliard and played in the Det. symphony for 35 years, was also on the Wayne state Univ. musical scholarship committee. Wayne state was a small state supported univ. in Detroit. He could have 'eased' my entry into that school where I would drill for 2 years. Still, I questioned...Julliard ? My teacher replied that once you are there, it's a 'beauty contest' to get a scholarship, meaning I only had to be one of the best among the other applicants.

My folks moved when I was 13 and just couldn't stay and finish Jr. high and that as they say...was the end of that.

The first career I ever remember stating publicly that I wanted (at 5 years of age) was a stripper. Never happened. I doubt I really knew what it was at the time.

I'm kinda ADD and a PT insomniac. The combination can lead to some moments of mad productivity. I go through stages where I work two and three jobs at a time and I don't like to be bored so I tend to work in widely divergent fields.
Hell,in Grad school I opened a business, bartended, did twenty hrs a week as a Grad Assistant(Free School-Woo-Hoo), was a Legislative Aide when session was open (14 weeks of the year) and worked as a consultant on the side. Somewhere in there I wrote the majority of a novel.
Oh yeah, and I got an MBA
Looking back, I have no clue how I did it.
It was good to be young and full of vim and vigor.

That's pretty awesome Kana. We'd be such good bar drunks together ;)

I absolutely love people that actually live. Go out and live, and you do. In R/L you and I could easily be Xamot & Tomax ;)

I didn't realize it until you asked, but every goal I set, I tend to meet it. Realizing this, makes me want to set more goals.

Yeah, Ma'am! This is what I love to hear.

I worked 3 careers concurrently: gemologist (jewelry appraiser), student healthcare, and music therapist for seniors/hospice/dementia patients. It was really fragmented and busy because I might do all 3 in the same day, but always exciting and I never got burned out in any one place.

Now I'm mostly retired and just do music therapy and gig for fun. It's definitely a labor of love, not money. Actually, it's a labor of love AND money: instruments and equipment cost bux!!

I was headed for a PhD in Reproductive Sciences, as in In Vitro Fertilization Specialist, endocrinologist, reproductive surgeon, etc...I wanted to work either with endangered animals like black rhinos and pandas, or work in the field of human fertility. It was the early 90's and ART was just starting to get established so I had doubts whether it was a viable choice. I got sidetracked when the retail store I was managing went up for sale, and BAM I went into the field of business, INSTANT CAREER. Now fertility is a major business and there are clinics all over New England at which I could have had a career and a sweet six-figure income. *DOH!*

I'm not sure yet. I acquired a new job a year ago in something that was just a hobby for me before. I just kinda fell into this job after applying on a whim and more as a joke to myself. Never in a million years would I have thought I would get the job. I wasn't even all that serious at the interview.

While I love my job and what I do, I also know I don't have a degree in it and I still have lots to learn about it. I feel like I'm starting my career all over again from the bottom up and that's a bit disconcerting for me. Master has tons of respect and positivity for what I do but it makes me nervous to know that before this job I was in another career that I was doing for some 20 odd years and was in a good place with it but now I'm back at the lower rung and at an older age now.

I'm an aspiring writer myself myotherself!
What do you want to write?

I'm about a third of the way through a book aimed at the mid-teen market. Something that I'm thoroughly enjoying researching and writing but something I'm guarding jealously

I have had short stories published in women's weekly magazines, but they aren't really my 'thing'. I also have an idea for an adult's crime novel and a series of pervy novels. I just need more time, in between teaching full time and doing a Master's course in my 'spare' time lol

It took me 15 years to get the confidence, and the minimum physical ability, to do what I really wanted to do, but a few weeks ago I finally got my dream job. The pay isn't fantastic yet, because I still have a lot to learn. I can already see a bit of improvement in my performance, though. By April or May I should be doing pretty well.

Getting out of a field I didn't like made such a difference in my life. I was stressed most of the time and rather unhappy. I quit in September 2013, entered my desired field in December, and got the position I wanted in early January. Now I'm a lot more able to deal with things, even things that have nothing to do with work, because my coping skills aren't being overwhelmed by constant career issues. The job isn't perfect but none are; on the whole I enjoy it and the little nuisances are just that - little. Like the coffee is weak and nasty, so I have to make or buy my own and bring it with me. Not a big deal.

That's funny because you pretty much described my life right now even down to quitting my last career that I hated, getting into this new one which I love, the little bumps are not bumps like before...yup, definitely describes my life now.

It's nice not having stress to the point you want to just want throw things after work lol. Now it's just...meh, whatever. No big deal.
