If any of you are masochistic, what is it that you get out of pain?

Enjoy the sensation itself?
Enjoy the gift to your dom/master/other?
Enjoy the challenge of it?
Appreciate your lack of control when you experience pain you can't stop?
Anything else?

I'm a masochist and I hate the pain.

However I love the challenge of coping with it, I love making Master happy, and for some reason it gets me incredibly wet and horny afterwards

I also love the feel of the welts and bruises in the days afterwards. Not so much looking at the marks, more feeling them. That can get me quite aroused too.

It arouses me - both at the time and remembering it afterwards.

It fascinates me - the sensation of experiencing pain, I notice different angles to it all the time, different ways that it makes me feel.

It makes me very submissive, and I enjoy feeling so submissive.

I find it cathartic and satisfying. If I am dealing with orgasm denial, or I have had a long day or I am worried, pain acts as a release - I find it soothing.

I can't really separate pain and sex in my mind, so things that I like about pain are also things that I like about sex. For example, the feeling of being violated, overpowered, used, etc.

I like giving a sadist the release of being able to hurt me and not have to feel guilty about it.

I like challenging myself to accept / enjoy pain that I consider too awful - the mindfuck of bearing something unbearable is... unique.

I like how sore it leaves me for days afterwards - pleasure is very fleeting but the physical aftereffects of pain can last for days.

There are probably lots of other reasons, but that's all I can think of for now.

Although I do enjoy some pain sensations.

My answers:

I enjoy proving myself. Like a hero in the action movies who can put up with pain, and still fight back, still stay conscious, still stay sane. I find it extremely empowering to prove myself... to both myself and my partner. It makes me feel strong.

I enjoy feeling the control through my body. Like the pain is the physical sensation of his domination, his absolute control and strength, and that... Excites me.

I enjoy letting him feel like he can release and hurt and dominate, and not hold back. Using me. Torturing me. I'm still his and I won't leave no matter how hard, no matter how much control he wants to exert.

I hate the pain. The feeling makes me fight and struggle and kick and shout and punch and that means if he's gonna hurt me, he's gonna have to tie me down... that pain and bondage releases me to be the strong person I am underneath. The torture overrides my mental control. I feel more free to be myself when no one is at risk as I'm tied up, and I have a justifiable reason to be out of control. It's odd when bondage and pain makes you feel more free, right?

I was very curious what answers people had. I've heard there are like 100 different answers!

Well, I think it's just like BDSM generally - what floats different people's boats is very specific to the individual. Personally, I feel this is a difficult world to approach with any generalities. Without knowing someone well, it is truly not possible to understand why what interests them does. Part of what makes it interesting, I suppose.

First of I'm always being told I have no self preservation instinct when it comes to things that might cause physical pain. It never crosses my mind that something might hurt me and when I do inevitably end up hurting myself I never learn from it.

So then when it comes to play its not until the pain starts getting intense that I really start thinking of pain being a bad thing, but by that stage I'm fairly overwhelmed with all the stimulation and the endorphins kick in

Honestly- no idea really. I mean, I just legitimately like exploring the sensations of some more than others. I'm purely into kink for the sex. We don't have a D/s dynamic outside the bedroom. A huge component for me is how much an activity turns him on, or me on. I can't tell you why I like men with straight teeth, beyond I find that attractive and sexy. Its the same. Theres really nothing I can explain beyond the endorphins that are released during pain adding to my sex life and his enjoyment of me.

This exactly!

I love the violet wand - absolutely adore it. It doesn't really register as pain to me, even when ramped right up to max. The sensations are pure bliss though and I usually hit subspace within minutes of it starting

I prefer thuddy pain to stingy pain. But I also count canes as being thuddy pain (depends on the thickness and stiffness of the cane). Recently a play partner zapped me with elastic bands and you wouldn't have believed I'd been a masochist for 13 years as you watched me screaming, crying and running all around the flat lol. I'd much rather take a wooden paddle than, say, a bullwhip.

I get that way with nipple clamps. Its embarrassing. I just...ugh...my nipples are so sensitive it ends up with me be squirmy and distracted because they just hurt so damn much, and for me the intensity just keeps growing if he touches them at all I'm a screaming mess. Its something we've been working on...but I'm still on just these stupid nipple clamps he got off Adam and Eve as a joke...turns out...we haven't even been able to move onto the chained together serious ones.

I like the challenge of seeing how much I can take. It's also about the power behind it - that he can and will do what he wants, for his own enjoyment. That part turns me on.

I also enjoy thuddy - it just FEELS good, and relaxes me. Stingy pain makes me crazy. Hate it, but i do receive it. The cane is his favorite tool...ugh.

I feel a tremendous amount of arousal just from being under his control and knowing I'll do whatever he wants.

When I get in a certain mindset, I don't receive painful sensations as pain, they become pleasure. The more aroused I am the more likely this is to happen. When I'm in that mindset (sub space?) I am completely under Himself's control. If he thought branding me (or anything else guaranteed to cause tremendous pain) was a good idea, I am incapable of doing anything other than going along with it.

Since I don't feel the pain as pain there is no issue of me seeing what I can take, I'm loving every second of it. Reasons why I don't engage in casual play on the sub side, I'm literally incapable of taking care of myself.

while most pain is not enjoyable, there is something about certain types that produce a tremendous endorphin rush. a lot i suppose is in the mind. some pain such as that felt from CBT stimulates the senses. the arousal can keep getting higher and higher. the whole point is to enjoy that stage for as long as possible. once an orgasm occurs it is all over for awhile and the pain becomes just very intense pain that sometimes can be followed by regret.

some pain produced by BDSM activities can be very arousing, such as bondage and restraints. pain from things like nipple clamps, whips, canning, can for some be very stimulating for many.
