Why?

Because slavery was abolished

Last time I checked, any one of these "slaves" can apply at Boeing, Microsoft or IBM.

Which is arrant nonsense. So because a minority of jobs are well paid, the large minority on low pay only have themselves to blame? Are you employed because with your sort of critical thinking, I can't imagine you doing anything more complex than pressing big buttons.

Exactly how much is a living wage? Answering in the abstract is not sufficient, neither is going off on some rhetorical tangent going to answer that question.

Way to miss Lookie's jab. The use of scare quotes should clue you in.

I can't because I don't know what a living wage is. Living wage = X. What's X? Is it $235.46/hr at 40 hrs per week?

$235.46/hr at 40 hrs per week is not intellectually honest, OR reasonable, its a joke, its a piss take, its a farce...
you wanna ignore the issue, go ahead, you dont have a clue on the reality for those living on lower than the federal poverty limit, let alone not giving a shit....
it wont go away, its real, its happening
dealing with your pathetic comment about 235.60 an hour shows your lack of ability to have a grown up topic
Owned? you arent capable of owning your lies .... let alone owning me

Of course it isn't intellectually honest, but it does point to your lack of intellectual capacity. I don't KNOW what a living wage is. You imply you do. What is it? The rest of your $%$# is pure emotion and obfuscation. You say living wage yet refuse to say what that is.

You're so owned people might think you're a slave.

edit: what pisses me off is that you call me intellectually dishonest because I won't agree to something where that something is not stated in an intellectually honest manner.

you want a dollar and cent value? No..... how about , the cost of housing, the cost of food, healthcare, the cost of travel, clothing, necessities for life in the 21st century, that includes communications, phone, internet.
yes I believe that minimum wage should cover that, however, because of the size, makeup, political nature, state rules on taxes, health care insurance, car insurance, i cant put a number on it, living in new york on minimum wage is going to be higher than in a tiny town of 300 people in texas.

you want to diss me with my kink???
how charming...misogynist or just ignorant arrogance?
fail at both either way..
Ive wasted enough time poking you already..im gonna go find something more exciting.

Right! Now admit that what's needed by Jill ain't necesaarily what's needed by Jack, or Paul or Betty Sue (all living in Manhattan or not) and you'll understand that there is no such thing as a LIVING WAGE one can quantify within the rubric of a legal minimum wage which idiots rally around as a Living Wage. All one has is making the best deal one can.

When you understand this you'll have grown a bit more towards an ability to take this ride.

Actually, it isn't a scare quote because wage slavery is rife in the western world. In a capitalist society, money liberates and if you haven't got money, you are oppressed and detached from mainstream society. Considering the USA and UK have the worst social mobility in the western world, virtually none, there is a lot of wage slavery in both countries and saying people ought to get a better education and job, is just a meaningless platitude.

wage slavery

What definition you using? Which dictionary?

Edit: Never seen that. http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/wage%20slave
Interesting use. Now, so what? Doesn't alter Lookies jab.

and since a wage slave is one dependent on one's employment, being a, say, G14 government employee is one wonderful slavehood.

Capitalism will slowly raise the standard of living in China, if it's (Capitalism) allowed to take hold and work.

Capitalists keep telling us how capitalism is lifting more and more Chinese out of poverty but they never tell you the flip side of how many people tnhey are pushing deeper and deeper into poverty and how many people are in indentured labour which means they are no better than slaves so a miniscule middleclass can grow a little.

And you haven't done it, either, have you now?
