25 years ago I saw this strange animal in the yard. Spent two days at the library looking at books that showed mammals of North America. Finally I called the Preserve up the mountain from me and asked them if this possibly was true. Was told then that there were over 25 sightings a year but the DEC refused to accept that the mountain lions were here since nobody had hit one with a car to prove it. This past weekend a hiker got a picture of one eating a blacksnake with their Smart Phone. The DEC has finally capitulated. Oh, and the way I described it to the head of the Preserve was that it was something you don't want to meet in a dark alley. Massive head and paws and barrel chested, not a wasp waist like a coyote.
