No. The whole point of asking about upcycling, which is re using something for a new purpose, is so they're not going in a landfill. I know of a few very good uses for them, but it doesn't hurt to pick the brains of other crafty people.

YOU may not believe you can do anything with them, other then throw them out but I and many others out there, do know there's re use and up cycling purposes for them. So i thank you kindly to keep your negativity to yourself. I will be ignoreing you from now on like mod Chi asked me to, if you're not contributing anything to a positive thread but negativity.

Throw them away.

If you don't want them in a landfill, then take them to a recycling bin. Trying to 'upcycle' tires and pill bottles is just going to fill your whole life with junk you don't need, and is going to overwhelm you.

You don't need pill bottles sitting around your place. You're going to go to the doctor, and the dosages are going to change. (Hopefully)

You're going to end up with half filled bottles with different dosages everywhere- you aren't going to remember which to take, and it's going to go bad.

Seriously, I had some lady get confused on which dosage of meds to take, go outside and have seizures in a gutter until the mailman found her. Bought her 4 months at a nursing home until she could get straightened out.

Throw old pill bottles away. The last thing you need is crap and clutter, and something tells me you need to be removing stuff FROM your home, not bringing more items in.

To LGH:

You have a lot on your plate right now.
Getting mentally and physically well should be your first priority.

Taking care of your home is part of that.
Decluttering and cleaning.

Get a cheap notebook or make an open office file to record your up-cycling ideas.

Then when you are well, go back to it.
But for now: put this marvelous burst of energy and creativity toward wellness!

But you can recycle your pill bottles.
Recycling is completely different than throwing them away.
There is that little triangle on the bottom of most things made of plastic.
It has a tiny number in it which tells you the type of plastic.
Recycing centers have the bins numbered.
You just match the numbers on the items with the bins.

And until you are much better, I think that trying to upcycle tires is a bad idea.
You don't want to have a bunch of old tires around and then lose your energy for upcycling.

That notebook is a great idea anjelika! I have a little notebook I keep my appointments and stuff in. I frequently go back to find info I put in there.

I have a friend who leans toward being a bit of a hoader. He saves his pill bottles. However, he uses almost all of them, so I never get on him to throw those away.

In any case, I mentioned this thread to him today. In our area prescription bottles are not permitted in our plastic/glass recycling. They are a "5" and not allowed, don't know why. He did say they are probably recyclable in other areas. I give him first dibs on my empties.

probably in case there is trace medical residue inside that can leech into the groundwater. I know water has been tested here in MD and in some place it tests positive for all kinds of medical drugs.

LittleGirlHeart you should do some kind of Arts and Crafts work with those Pill Bottles and other Hoarded items that you have stacking up. They would make a great 3-D effect if glued to wood and framed, you could paint the bottles and have one of a kind art work. It might be a hit at the art shows and make you some good money. Try making holes in the old tires and putting the bottles in them and using discarded Christmas lights to light the bottles up, that would be one custom yard planter for sure.

Because simply googling it doesn't bring fresh conversations and new conversations to collar me. it doesn't build friendships and give other people ideas that benifit them and make them think out side the box. if you don't like what i talk about on here, seriously hide me . I'd buy a proper meds dispenser from a typical dollar store.
Probably made from recycled plastic from old bottles.

And I'd dump the old pill bottles into the recycling box where they'll do more good for the environment than anything I could bodge up for myself.

@LGH...
For all these things you keep coming up with and posting on these boards... why not use Google???
Pretty much most of what people reply on here can be found via Google.
Wouldn't it be more satisfying to have done your own research and gotten your own solutions and projects rather than relying on us lot to give them to you on a platter??
I was also going to say something else but that would be a gold-letter thingy - so I won't.

I may be wrong but I think that is mainly from the way people often dispose of their unused medications.
We used to flush 'em.
I worked at a group home 6 years ago and that was our SOP.

Now pharmacies take them back (for a price) and the state police has days when they accept them at no charge.

I usually throw mine away since I am not longer in the jewelry business but back then I had stones, earring hooks and other stuffies in the bottles in a small toolbox. Old film canisters I used to have quarters in for laundry.

Upcycling is great, but rather than collect junk and then think 'what can I make?', it works best when you think 'I need X, what can I use to make it with?'

If you collect junk you will end up with things you can never use up that just make a mess, or you will end up making things that really aren't that useful just for the sake of it, which will clutter up your home. On the other hand, if you think up something which would make your life better, then you can collect just the useful stuff to make it.

Yes. you're right. I have all these ideas and frankly not much energy. I will journal my ideas. and in the mean time we put all my pills in 3 different bags and we labled take as needed for one, take regularly for the other and take 30 mins before eating 2xs a day.

And as for decluttering I am going to sell a lot of my stuff, get some money for it and put that money aside and James is gonna take a lot of his stuff and deal with it, and that's a big part of the clutter too.

yeah we're ordering one that has morning section and nght and you can loos and see, if there's pills there when there shouldn't be oops ya forgot a dose, but wer;e working very hard on me remembering to take them right.

Chris, I use something like this, which probably cost $3 dollars:

There are also bigger ones, and ones that organize multiple doses per day. Here's some examples from Amazon. I'm sure they have them at Walmart and CVS as well, but walmart.com was no help.

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dhpc&field-keywords=7+day+medication+dispenser&rh=n%3A3760901%2Ck%3A7+day+medication+dispenser

Regarding your empty pill bottles, my vote is that you recycle them. You should keep the current bottle on hand so you have information such as how many refills you have, etc., and not keep additional bottles for all the reasons LL mentioned:

quote:

Chris honey, right now you need to seriously clean your living space and discard things. Wanting to save stuff and make it useful is admirable. However, right now, you know you are still a bit manic, and you are going in a dozen directions at once. What's going to happen is that you are going to save stuff, all with good intention or start multple project and then not finish.

You are going to get plenty of pill bottles, a bunch every month, so this project can wait. Also you don't want to keep putting the new script in the old bottle. If you do, and then need to check the script date or the refills, you will be looking at an old bottle.

Also, don't forget, you get mutliple scripts each month. If you have six prescriptions, you willl get six new bottles each month. You can't upcycle all of them. I don't know if they are recyclable or not, but if they are, they won't end up in a land fill, instead recycling in itself helps the environment.

So while lynn's comment may have seemed short and snarky, throwing them away right now is better for you. Once your living space is neat, clean, and organized AND you are managing to keep it that way for a couple of months, THEN start thinking about upcycle projects. But only do ONE at a time (aside from normal trash separation), and only when you can do it without making your space a candidate for "Hoarders."

Trying to remember to take your pills is great, but those pills cases are great for helping. I hope you aren't thinking it should be a temporary method of remembering towhat to take and when.

Yes, that's true. People would flush them into toilets but nowadays a lot of people just throw them in the trash and they leech into the soil. People it seems are too lazy to take them to recycling centers where they should be placed. I usually remind myself to take my empty bottles with me when I get my pills refilled. This way they can be disinfected and reused.
