Well yes that's a good point. A very, very good point, Padriag. I agree with you, too - I really do.

And the generic answer to this question is: 42

I like that Kipling Poem myself.

Focus your Mind and the Universe will follow.
I may be nothing but I am part of everything.

I do so enjoy this forum. I read the OP and was about to launch into a post that would have probably ended up the length of "War and peace"... till I spotted Padriags post which says everything I was about to say but far more elequently.

Many thanks Padriag

If you would Master The Universe, you must first Master yourself.and the elements...

Ok IB. You've piqued my curiousity.

What are the elements referred to here? I'm guessing you're not talking about turning lead into gold, or vice versa.

And what meaning do you take for yourself from the expression "Master the Universe"?

Elements found in nature and in man (remember I am thinking from a Occultist's view of things) Earth, Water. Air. Fire and Spirit..

First master those elements within you (you need to see the philisophical view of them as well as the hermetis views). When you can truely master the elements you can then start to learn how to master the same elements in a physical/ material form without you. Once and only once you have mastered the elements in nature are you ready to master the universe.. It is said that at that time you have no desire or need to do so and by no longer desiring to manifesr power you have truely mastered yourself..

To me it means, knowing yourself, what you want, need, etc.......it also means being able to controle your emotions up to a point, and knowing where that point is, and being very careful what you do and say when you get near that point.  If you don't "know" yourself it seems to me it would be awful hard to train someone to "know" you.

You sound just like my slave.  LOL.  She's always wanting me to talk about my problems....thing is, I don't have that many, and the ones i do have, I usually keep to myself until I work them out, or give up on...then I'm more apt to talk about them.  I'm not saying that's the right way, just my way.  But to make her feel better, I have started to tell her some of them....ya know what..... it doesn't help unless she sees an answer that I missed.  I guess I'm just not the sharing problems type.

Noah,

I think you made some good points in your post, ones that we should all understand.  Until you can see into tomorrow with no error, then you can not be in total control.  However, one can, to a certain point, control how one reacts to the uncertainties of life.  I have yet to reach the point of total control, don't think I would want too even if I could, and i know I can't.... but I have seen the worst life has to offer save my own death, and I think I have learned to have a certain level of self-control...and that is the control in question, is it not?  In my opinion, and if you add a buck fifty to that you can get a cup of jo at waffel house, have the ability to control oneself to a point is not only something worth striving for, but is something that can be obtained.

Thanks to everyone who replied, and I really dig that Kipling poem. I didn't really think I was master over anything in myself until I saw some of the qualities other Master's/Top's had posted in myself.
