The depressing part of it all is that we are creating this problem for ourselves - these animals can't help it. However, given the choice between a dog living in a shelter for the rest of its life (the majority of which, rightfully so, choose quantity of dogs over quality of living) without a hope of ever getting to a loving family and putting it down after a certain amount of time, I would say it is generally more humane to put them down. Not a good choice, but the lesser of two evils in my opinion. Of course, the best way would be to educate people about neutering and spaying, and generally to teach them that a dog is not a toy, but that's wishful thinking. Yours, benji
