I am right outside of Atlanta and the weather sucks! Sitting here listening to transformers blow, wondering how long til I lose power and watching the tree limbs nearly touching the ground from the weight of the ice.

Anyone else having this much fun?

Here in NE TX, we do has a bit of snow on the ground and I am just waiting for a limb or a tree to fall down and give us a blackout. I got a lantern next to the bed.

Gas/ propane (as opposed to battery-powered) lanterns are a huge source of carbon monoxide. So, if yours isn't battery-powered, please be very careful with it. Think seriously about not using it at all inside your home.

ShaharThorne -> RE: Ice Ice Baby (2/12/2014 6:01:47 AM)

It is battery operated...all of the lanterns we got are battery operated. I refuse to get oil lamps because they take up room.

I feel bad for you guys. No, really I do. [8D] It is almost a heat wave today at -24 at 5am

ChatteParfaitt -> RE: Ice Ice Baby (2/12/2014 6:12:37 AM)

This is the warmest day we've had in a while, it's minus 9 right now.

It's *supposed* to get up to 24 today with no snow.

And I hate the ice. We have streets that didn't get plowed (too much snow removal they're over budget) which means they get slushy during the day, freeze over night, create a huge slab of ice.

Rinse and repeat for the past 30 days, makes for some interesting driving.

*feels awful...er...I was snorkeling in the Bahamas five days ago...*

Lynnxz -> RE: Ice Ice Baby (2/12/2014 6:22:36 AM)

I tried to call out of work, because I do NOT drive in the snow, and I'm on a rual, mountainy sort of road that doesn't get iced...

They're sending the maintenance guy for me... Ugh. Do not want. :(

It's finally going in the other direction here in Wisconsin. Maybe in the 30's by this weekend.

LafayetteLady -> RE: Ice Ice Baby (2/12/2014 8:38:36 AM)

Our forecast is predicting 8-12 inches starting tonight, lasting through tomorrow.

DaddySatyr -> RE: Ice Ice Baby (2/12/2014 8:40:29 AM)

I'm waiting on (what "they" say may be) a 12-18 inch drop. Lucky me. I am obsessive about shoveling so I have a long night/day ahead of me.

The hold time for Delta Airlines yesterday was well over an hour. I think they did a preemptive strike this time and cancelled all the flights ahead of time.

It's been a winter to forget here in Milwaukee. 25 days at or below 0 so far this season.

angelikaJ -> RE: Ice Ice Baby (2/12/2014 9:27:38 AM)

Ice storms scare me more than a little.

Several years ago we had a snow storm at the end of October that behaved like an ice storm because all the leaves were still on the trees.
Branches broke, trees fell and we lost power 3 hours into the storm and did not get it back for a week.

Something I would be would happy to never repeat.

You are in my thoughts.

LadyPact -> RE: Ice Ice Baby (2/12/2014 11:04:07 AM)

I was just reading the reports. I hope you guys are hanging in there.

Lucylastic -> RE: Ice Ice Baby (2/12/2014 11:19:41 AM)

keep hangin ladies n gents... its minus 6 here and its actually going above zero on friday, YAY
be warm be safe be prepared,
winter snuggles

DomKen -> RE: Ice Ice Baby (2/12/2014 1:19:01 PM)

Everyone down South affected by this storm take care. This thing sounds like it may be worse than anything you've likely seen in a while. Good luck and stay off the roads if you can.

JstAnotherSub -> RE: Ice Ice Baby (2/12/2014 2:33:10 PM)

We're hangin in there. The leaves on my Magnolia tree that are normally 6 feet off the ground are about 1 foot off it now.

I knew we were in for hell when Ken Cook rolled up his sleeves. Folks are staying off the road, and I made potato soup and cornbread, so if I can keep power all will be good.

I am about to get some cabin fever though!

ARGHHHHHHHHHH

DesFIP -> RE: Ice Ice Baby (2/12/2014 4:05:29 PM)

At 8:00 AM it was a balmy minus eleven. Made it up to 22 though.

However we're getting two waves of snow tomorrow into Friday. Totals between 10 and 20 inches. We have plans to shovel every four inches as otherwise it gets too overwhelming.

Our power was out most of the day. We broke out the grill and cooked.
