I am sorry, I must have missed that post. I saw the one where the poll was broken down by political party but it didn't have anything to indicate if they were against it because of their political leanings or because of their religious beliefs. Maybe you or GS could help a boi out here.

Here you go: http://epiphenom.fieldofscience.com/2009/03/whats-connection-between-religion-and.html

. . . and now, for something that has nothing to do with Detroit (my old hometown). Many nations are waking up to the realities of human sexuality and identity.

Alberta grants new birth certificate to transgender boy

Wren Kauffman, 12, was presented with the new document on Sunday after the province changed its rules to remove a requirement for sex reassignment surgery.
more . . .

Interesting link. thanks for finding it. The only part that really surprised me was this...

"It also turned out that more religious people were more likely to be authoritarian, conservative, poorer, and Protestant - all factors that also predicted homophobia. Women were also more likely to be religious, but less likely than men to be homophobic."

I would have thought they would be more likely to be Catholic but that could be in part due to living next to a homophobic catholic most of my life. The poorer part also had me wondering where they picked their 1500 adults from.

That is good news [:)]

Much as that graphic is one of GotSteel's favorites in his never ending campaign of anti-religious activism, we've known for decades that there is no direct connection between the belief that homosexual acts are sinful and a fear and loathing of homosexuals (Oxford, Collins, MacMillan, Webster's). Not to put too fine a point on it, in its 2013 polling Pew Research found 65% of mainline Protestants and 71% of Catholics accepting of homosexuality. That's higher than the 60% acceptance rate among Americans overall. Only 31% of Americans still think homosexuality should be discouraged, and almost half of them give a reason other than religion.

The authors investigated the role of homosexual arousal in exclusively heterosexual men who admitted negative affect toward homosexual individuals. Participants consisted of a group of homophobic men (n = 35) and a group of nonhomophobic men (n = 29); they were assigned to groups on the basis of their scores on the Index of Homophobia (W. W. Hudson & W. A. Ricketts, 1980). The men were exposed to sexually explicit erotic stimuli consisting of heterosexual, male homosexual, and lesbian videotapes, and changes in penile circumference were monitored... Both groups exhibited increases in penile circumference to the heterosexual and female homosexual videos. Only the homophobic men showed an increase in penile erection to male homosexual stimuli. ~J. Ab. Psychol, 1996

Please don't form opinions about a large group using a sample size of 1. That's the worst way to do things.....ok maybe not the worst way, that would be ouija board. But it's a not too distant second.

You're claiming a 18 year old study remains relevant? Really?

If a lamp post could talk, the great advantage it would have over you is its lack of any ability to think it knows what it's talking about.

So you're not claiming an 18 year old study is still relevant today. Then why did you post about it?

Well if we could validly draw the conclusion that homophobes are repressed homosexuals 18 years ago based on the responses of 19 guys it seems like that should still be true. Thing is if it were true as the number of homophobes has gone down the number of homosexuals should have gone up. So why haven't homosexuals more than doubled in the last decade?

Alternatively it could be that anxiety effected the study, or simply that recruiting homophobes willing to watch gay porn while having electrodes hooked up to their cocks biased the incredibly small sample size.

I think we have a winner.

Do you have data on what percentage of the population was gay a decade ago and what percentage is gay today, or are you just trying to nudge DomKen out of the winner's circle for posting evidence-free claims?

Since you both seem to believe that you can debunk evidence by making up shit for which there is no evidence, I think what we have here is a couple of people who couldn't start a fire by rubbing their two brains cells together. Neither seems to have what it takes to ignite a spark.

It only seems irrelevant to you because I'm not talking about the planet you live on.

One theory is that homosexual urges, when repressed out of shame or fear, can be expressed as homophobia... It’s a compelling theory — and now there is scientific reason to believe it. In this month’s issue of the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, we and our fellow researchers provide empirical evidence that homophobia can result, at least in part, from the suppression of same-sex desire. ~New York Times, April 27, 2012

The evidence points to repressed homosexual arousal being the underlying cause of primary homophobia. But, in all fairness, that comes with the caveat that I only mean here on Earth.
