in the tos it says not to be negative or derogatory about other members or disrespectful in general.
why is it there is so much negativity here?
why cant there be more positive encounters uplifting things, I understand corrections and such but there seems
to be a awful lot of just bad juju and negative vibes from members here.

Congrats on your first post! Welcome to the discussion side of CM.

The TOS are just the rules expressed beforehand. Is the negativity something you've witnessed or just assumed because of the rule in the TOS?

You'll see that the mods around here are pretty vigilant about being negative towards other users. The usual rule is "attack the post, not the poster". Most of us are pretty good at doing just that.

There is a whole group dedicated to positive encounters, and a lot of threads in the 'casual banter' section which are unfailingly supportive and uplifting ('I admit' and 'trainwreck' are two which immediately spring to mind).

I think it's important to note that we are ALL members. Me, you, everyone else. So any generalisations that are made about 'members' includes yourself. If you don't like what is being said then it's up to you to put your two penn'orth in there rather than stand back and complain about everyone else.

Having said all that, I think you'll find there are a lot of good people on here (old and new) and getting to know us and our sometimes 'quirky' senses of humour can make for quite an uplifting and entertaining time

There are sadists who hang out around here. LOTS of sadists. You'd almost think it was a dating website for sadists or something. Oh wait... nevermind.

Only some of us are really awful.

Welcome!

OP, welcome to the site.

When you make this judgement of us all, do you consider the topic that is being responded to? I suggest that you stick around for a couple of months, and then you'll see exactly why certain threads get the responses that they do.

we are real people here......well most of us are, there are a few odd balls lol then the trolls come along, and we don't suffer them lightly. I suggest that you take a look in polls and random stuff a couple of forums down from here. in there you will find the train wreck thread, and the 'I admit' thread. in there you will get a good idea of how some of us really are. if you don't want heated debate, stay away from politics and religion. like any other walk of life, choose the path you want to walk, but don't expect that everyone else will be doing the same.

I try to leave my negativity in P&R
I dont always manage
its hell down there.....
But out of P&R its so much better. There are lots of friendly people here, people who arent so friendly but have good advise, PITA who are good for a laugh, and some amazing people who troll for us.
Takes all kinds to make a functioning forum like this...
Expectations dont often get met...but sometimes the response is amazingly good, fun, loving and caring.Welcome to the forums

You like cats, good.

Then picture this group like a community of larger domesticated cats (just not as fluffy).

You have your sweet ones and your not-so-sweet ones (that you swear the devil himself is inhabiting the body).

Cats are playful and curious, of course.  Some just like to laze around watching the other cats go at it with a ball of yarn (usually a thread created by a "troll") that unravels into a huge mess.  At that point, the pet shop keepers (the mods) need to close up shop and clean up the mess.   They try their hardest to step in before things get so messy, but cats can pounce pretty quickly.

These cats are here for entertainment and, for the most part, mean no harm.  When they see a new ball of thread appear, sometimes they just can't help themselves but to have a little fun and play.

I've seen some heated debates but they usually stay pretty clean of attacks to posters.  Unless you have a person that pops out of no where who appears to only want to cause trouble.
It only has to be a negative experience here if you want one.

The other thing op is that when someone posts a complaint, we're quite likely to offer advice that will change things. We don't know ahead of time that the person posting doesn't want help changing things, that for whatever reason they want to stay miserable.

Telling them that they should keep doing what doesn't work would be more heartless. Many of us have been through major issues and know that only hard work will make changes.

oooo I want to play 'my happy place'

my happy place would be a couple of acres of my own land. I'd love a lot of acres, but I'd settle for a couple.

Actually there is not that much negativity here. From what I can see the negative and positive ratio is aboout 10% to 90%. I see the negativity as constructive critisism, not handling people with kid gloves as we are all adults here and not suffering fools gladly.

We had a guy here shortly ago that said women forced him to lie about his marital status because they would not play with him otherwise. Can you see anything positive to say about that? And are we going to let newbies think that this stuff is ok because we were so nice?

And behind our secreens, we are all human. Some people are nicer than others, some are not. But this is the internet and everyone is entitled to their opinion. Hell, we are not near as bad as our Congress.

This place, for me, boils down to this. Take what you need and leave the rest.

The house I am buying is on 2.65 acres, the other land I own is 265 acres.
