As I said to TheHeretic come up with a better idea...any idea... unless you don't believe there is a problem.

I've been saying for years that we are not well served by the hyper-partisan media, Butch, and I despise both the lowest common denominator approach to news, right along with celebrity info being at the top of the Google news feed.

However, I would no more restrict the free press watchdog, that is our first and best line of defense against tyranny, because of such things, than I would get rid of the dogs in my home, because they shit all over the back yard.

DomKen -> RE: Freaking Orwellian (2/24/2014 11:55:29 PM)

You read the facts you claim were not in the papers in the papers.

The truth is by the standard economic measures we've been in a recovery since 2009.

You can have your own opinions but not your own facts.

mnottertail -> RE: Freaking Orwellian (2/25/2014 3:12:57 AM)

This, with a pretty worthless congress of nutsackers putting the hurt to everything as well.

Yep..... all I could find on the FCC is how they failed to investigate the phone tapping scandal under Junior. [;)]

Did you try reading this?

Eventually Yes, did you not spot my wink ?

In reply to Kdsub:

Is this the sort of answer you would be happy with, Butch? This is the fact you need, now shut up and hear more about the pop star du jour?

I say we cut Squealer into bacon, and if the stove gets greasy, that's the price we pay.

If the government got to censor the "facts" we would never have known about Watergate.

BamaD -> RE: Freaking Orwellian (2/25/2014 8:47:34 AM)

You read the facts you claim were not in the papers in the papers.

But if you read the stories as you were meant to you wouldn't have.
I only found the truth by comparing 4 newspapers what the said and most importantly
what they wouldn't say. And keep in mind it was confirmed later.
Now they spread the myth that the teacher had nothing to do with it and that the kid was on his way home.
Originally he was stopped in the school but that no longer fits the approved narrative.
If anything we have too much governmental influence over the press.
Knowing that you shouldn't put your hand in boiling water doesn't mean you should jump in a furnace.

I just did some double checking, he was stopped on his way off campus. He was in the parking lot when the principal confronted him.

I think what has happened here is you so desperately want the press to have been skewing the accounts that you have made up your own facts.

Here's a pro gun article confirming that the shooter was in his car and leaving campus when confronted.

The fact remains that if the government gets to choose what the "facts" are the facts will always favor those
currently in power.

And being in the parking lot means he wouldn't have hurt anyone else?
The fact remains that the press tried to ignore the vice principals actions.

Ahhh.... a new day and a fresh perspective...save me a big slice of that bacon I'm hungry... I've a new idea... appoint me chief fact checker I'm sure you would all trust me to keep to the facts. When in an argument here on Collarme I will be your arbitrator and will declare who has their facts straight.

I wouldn't even favor a proposal that made me the final judge of the facts.

Well I wouldn't either...but you can trust me...[:D]

We used to have a poster on here that was a wiz in finding facts on the web... She was great I used to get a kick out of her skills in shutting up fanatics here... She shut me up a few times as well. Haven't seen her on lately. Boy I am getting old I can't recall her nick. I think it was tazzygirl.

jlf1961 -> RE: Freaking Orwellian (2/25/2014 11:52:45 AM)

How about this solution, we need someone to develop a microchip that can be inserted into the human brain that will deliver increasingly painful stimuli with each lie told.

Oh come on, dont you want a chip in your head that will kill you if you tell a lie (or anti-government propaganda even if true?)

Think of the possibilities such technology would bring?

kdsub -> RE: Freaking Orwellian (2/25/2014 12:45:07 PM)

Well first it would be a waste of money because I never lie... except about the length of some body parts and that doesn't count... And second my head is too hard for insertion.

Ps... And third the NSA already knows all my lies

So as long as it is something you like the press gets it right.
