And why don't you get over the fact that running around waving a rag aint nothing but babysitting the imbeciles.

DaddySatyr -> RE: First it was press one for english, now.... (3/10/2014 2:14:07 PM)

Consider this:

Burning the US flag is a right guaranteed in the First Amendment as freedom of speech. Correct?

Wearing a shirt with the US flag is not freedom of speech?

They fuckin all are rags for imbeciles and cowards to wrap themselves in and wave the bloody shirt, while shirking their military duties to their country.

How many children in America went to bed hungry last night, if they have a bed, and you guys are fuckin howling about shirts?

*No* Americans went to bed hungry last night, Ron. We know this a) because the USA is a fabulously successful country and b) because Americans are warm and loving people who look after each other, on account of they're God-loving Christians, and stuff.

I know you would love for me too LMAO. BUt I don't have a death wish. I just edited this, because honestly I didn't know what Union Jack meant. I have some English and Scottish blood in me, I love Brits. I would wear the Tshirt, but not to intentionally cause strife.

This complaint would be like an American complaining about a Union Jack
being worn in England on the fourth of July

Not even remotely. Nobody in the UK gives a flying one about American Independence. It's utterly irrelevant to us. Most people don't even know the history of American independence, never mind care about it.

Still can't read can you, I said Hispanics complaining about an America flag symbol in the U S
would be like an American in England complaining about A Union Jack symbol.
Both the Hispanic and the American would be way out of line.

Dvr22999874 -> RE: First it was press one for english, now.... (3/10/2014 4:30:18 PM)

I was always taught that the 'Butchers Apron' (the British flag) was only the Union Jack when flown from the jackstaff of a British naval vessel. Any other time, it is the Union Flag. Either way, I think there are very few Brits (and I was born one) who would really give a rat's ass what was said about that rag on a stick.
Yes, I served in the military but NO it was NOT the military of Britain or Australia and flags and patriotism mean little to me I'm afraid

jlf1961 -> RE: First it was press one for english, now.... (3/10/2014 4:34:51 PM)

I agree, an American in England complaining about someone wearing a shirt with the Union Jack would be out of line. Especially since some past and present posters believe that the British Crown still runs the US.

Please point out where I said anything about British reaction.
I was talking about how tacky it would be for AMERICANS in England to get upset about it.
And it was an English citizen who injected the term Union Jack into this conversation so go whine to them
about usage.

Court rules school can ban American flag shirts to avoid racial strife

A federal court ruled Thursday that a northern California high school did not violate the constitutional rights of its students when school officials made them turn their American flag T-shirts inside out on Cinco de Mayo or be sent home due to fears of racial violence.

The three-judge panel unanimously decided the officials’ need to protect the safety of their students outweighed the students’ freedom of expression rights.

Administrators at Live Oak High School, in the San Jose suburb of Morgan Hill, feared the American-flag shirts would enflame Latino students celebrating the Mexican holiday, and ordered the students to either turn the shirts inside out or go home for the day.

Okay let me see if I have this straight, Hispanics can where the Flag of Mexico to school but American kids cant wear the US flag because it might cause a fucking incident?

This is fucking bullshit.

And this is supposed to prevent racial strife?

First of all, Cinco De Mayo isnt a fucking US holiday, has nothing to do with the US, and honestly, if you want to celebrate it, may I suggest you haul your ass back to Mexico?

I have a better idea. Instead of Americans bending over backwards to keep the Hispanics happy on their holidays, how bout we ban anything featuring the flag of Mexico from our schools permanently?

This is the United States, not North Mexico.

JLF, the American flag is politically incorrect. It connotes essential racial implications (by subsumation).

We MUST focus on other people's concerns because they come from places that deserve respect. The baseball team: Washington Redskins are a PURE example of our inherent racism.

We should learn their language. It should be obvious....foreigners are the fastest growing group (I think we're just not fucking enough).

Get with the program JLF.

Subsume.

Ok, dusting off my old Navy hat.

The "jack" is the pennon flown from the forward staff on a ship and is known as the "jackstaff".
The "flag" or "ensign" is flown from the back.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maritime_flag

The American "Union Jack": http://www.usflagsupply.com/category_1122/U.S.-Union-Jack-Ensign.htm
The U.S. Flag is flown aft.

British naval flags get more complicated.
Their "ensign" is not the national flag. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Naval_Ensign_of_the_United_Kingdom.svg Which is seen on Royal Navy warships. Other ships under U.K. registry fly a different ensign.
The "Union Jack" is flown at the front.

List of British flags: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_British_flags

There is a huge amount of protocol involved in Maritime flags. (Holdover from sailing days.)

Humorous submarine trivia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Royal_Navy_Dolphins.jpg
The insignia of the Royal Navy's Submarine Service is known as "the Queen's legs".
It's common for sailors to trade insignias when meeting in port. Things like a SEATO joint exercise can be an interesting study in learning phrases in many different languages.

I have often thought you didn't have a clue about this country and now I know it's a fact. But yes you two are right. If this thread hadn't been going on, I am sure many of those kids would have had hot meals last night. I don't know how people are going to sleep tonight knowing they cause so much suffering.
