Bama I can't believe responsible gun owners are defending this yahoo... I was not like they woke up with an armed burglar in their house...It was not as if the door was broken down... there was no threat to this man and his wife. If he called the police he should have waited until they came or until the man tried to force his way in the home and he and his wife were in true danger. No he wanted to confront this man and shoot him. This is the type of crime that the NRA should be against as well as any responsible gun owner... because if this keeps up eventually there will be more gun laws and it will be their own fault. Butch

I am not saying he will be charged with a crime... only that he committed one he will get away with... There was no excuse to confront and kill this man. As I've said... if he had tried to break in the home then "I" would have blown him away in that situation... but that did not happen. The police were not given a chance to handle this... the yahoo took a life needlessly. Even if this had been a true burglar he still would not have been justified in killing unless he and or his wife or property was in danger. Butch

Bordering right up on "bullshit." The cops were called, but apparently there was a line at the donut shop. Someone tried to gain entry through the front door, then headed around the back, and failed to respond to a verbal challenge from the lawful resident of the home.

Last time I called 911 I got the county, they had to transfer me to the city, it took 20 minutes for the cops to get there and I live one block from the station.

What was it pitch black outside? I cannot understand trying to see someone in my own yard and being unable to distinguish that he's a lost, old man. Rather conveniently this frail, cold, gentle dementia victim -- was described as: "coming at me" with "something in his hand." Because the victim is dead, there is no one to corroborate or verify what actually happened. We can now count on every murderer to claim a SYG defense, especially when there are no witnesses about. We have three dead men so far guilty of: (1) Walking home in your own neighborhood with skittles in your pocket. (2) Being a passenger in a car with loud music. (3) Carrying a flashlight while suffering from dementia. And no murder convictions.

First... the man at the door repeatedly" RANG THE DOOR BELL AND KNOCKED" Does this sound like he was breaking in... yea burglars always ring the doorbell. Second... "Hendrix's fiancee called 911, WHILE Hendrix grabbed his .40-caliber handgun, went outside and confronted the unknown man in the dark. If she called WHILE he is getting his gun and walking out the back door to confront the man does this sound to you like time was given for the police to respond? I call bullshit on this one. Butch

Burglars frequently ring the doorbell to see if anyone is at home. If someone answers then they will either apologize for being at the wrong house and go elsewhere to steal or commence a home invasion. If the bell is unanswered, then it is assumed no one is home and it is safe to kick it in and commence burgling.

But... there was NO attempt to break in so there was NO excuse to confront and kill... The police would have taken care of the situation if given a chance. Let me tell you a story... Many years ago as a young man I had a job with my local municipality. One blizzard on a deserted country road... long after midnight... my truck broke down. Back before cell phones and even radios in trucks I had little choice but to hike up a framers road and knock on the door to use their phone. It was very cold and I was in danger of exposure if I did not get help. I had to knock and knock...and knock some more before through the door I heard the farmer ask who it was. Yes I asked him to call a number for me... I did not ask to come in... He did i survived... But if knocking on the door was an excuse to kill I would not be telling this story. Butch
