Estring, I applaud you. I am white. I am not a racist. I believe that all people should work to the highest standards of behavior and education. For two decades, I worked for the Federal Government. The branch employed mostly blacks. Out of 17,800 employees, I was one of about a dozen who were white. Was I abused, slandered, or insulted? Every minute of every day. Eventually, I turned into a racist. It's been a few years since I've been RIF'd out (reduction in force during the Clinton Administration), and I am over it, or so I thought. I drove a cab for a while-lease driver. The cab's owner: a black guy from Ghana, told me never to pick up black passengers. I thought, as I was getting over my racism, what nonsense. Out of about twenty fairs, only one paid. The rest were run-outs. Later I decided to return to school-- a nice university in the Los Angeles area. I also decided to try living on campus--never done that in my youth. One of my room mates was a black guy that had never been to high school, junior high, or taken any college entrance exam or the high school equivalency exam (G.E.D.). He had only attended school to the 5th grade and dropped out. He was there on a special affirmative action program exclusively for ghetto minorities. He wasn't required to attend class, so he didn't. He sat in front of the computer looking at porn all day, except for when he went to work at Washington Mutual Bank. This program guaranteed him a 3.0 G.P.A. for absolutely nothing. He has since used his ill gotten degree to become a branch manager at WAMU. The man can barely read!!! It then occurred to me. I am not the racist. The liberal maggots of this society have lowered the bar so low that minorities are stuck in the mire of desolation. After all, how can one climb to the top of the Empire State Building with only a step stool and a broken elevator? We all need a foundation of good behavior and a ladder of strong education to climb to the heights that we desire for ourselves and our children. Will race make you a target of "profiling" by the cops? No, but your behavior will. Strangely, most of my cop buddies are black or hispanic (only one white guy) and they are the first to profile what they percieve as "gangster" behavior. Racism? No. Police officers are just trained to filter out suspicious behavior. If I wander through the streets of Bel-Air, going from yard to yard, looking over fences, etc. I will be dragged to the brig by the local constabulary. Liberals should not assume that a person is incapable of success because of their race. I've known countless physicians, lawyers, and college professors who became who they are not in spite of their race, but because of their talent and dedication. To assume one incompetant because of thier race is criminal. That room-mate I discussed before is incompetant not because of his race, but because of his lack of education. He must be a pretty smart guy, because he was able to debug his computer and fix its problems like a professional programmer. Having never taken such a class, he learned it on his own. If the bar had been raised for him as it is for non minorities and those minorities that refuse to accept lower standards, I am convinced without reservation that he would be as successful as any that walk the hallowed halls of education. As a biologist, I must say that in reality, race is an invention of man. Our phenotypes have evolved to accomodate evolutionary stressors, but all mankind is but of one species: Homo sapiens. Homo, our genus, means "same". Sapiens, our species, means wise. Perhaps we can all try to live up to our species name.
