A national union that represents 300,000 low-wage hospitality workers charges in a new report that Obamacare will slam wages, cut hours, limit access to health insurance and worsen the very “income equality” President Obama says he is campaigning to fix.

Unite Here warned that due to Obamacare's much higher costs for health insurance than what union workers currently pay, the result will be a pay cut of up to $5 an hour. "If employers follow the incentives in the law, they will push families onto the exchanges to buy coverage. This will force low-wage service industry employees to spend $2.00, $3.00 or even $5.00 an hour of their pay to buy similar coverage," said the union in a new report.

“Only in Washington could asking the bottom of the middle class to finance health care for the poorest families be seen as reducing inequality,” said the report from Unite Here. “Without smart fixes, the ACA threatens the middle class with higher premiums, loss of hours, and a shift to part-time work and less comprehensive coverage,” said the report, titled, “The Irony of Obamacare: Making Inequality Worse.”

BTW the ONLY place reporting this is Ralston and WE, well of course nutsacker sites
UNite here has nothing on their website, the news sites carrying it, are simply the examiner.

The effect was that my health insurance went from $380 per month to over $1200 a month and the deductible went from $500 a year to $5000 a year.
The Veterans Administration has required prior to treatment either proof of insurance or statements why you don't have insurance even for service connected disability.

My Mom's on welfare so our family is covered by the State of California Health Care system. It actually was pretty good until ObamaCare took place. Now they are cutting our services, for example, my sister isn't able to get her annual papsmear anymore. I think it's every other year. They've cut a lot of other services for the poor since ObamaCare took effect. I've heard that middle class America's health care plans have upped their rates. Everything is more costly with less services.

Huh? The VA asks me if I have other insurance, I say No, and that's the end of it.

If you have VA health benefits, why would you pay $380 per month for outside insurance? Wouldn't it be more cost effective to put that $4,560/year to pay out of pocket for things the VA does not cover?

Status: offline 		I am the 'lower-middle-class'. I am a CA state retiree (community college system) and purchase my insurance through them. Under Obama Care it's virtually the same as it was before, ~$400 with a $5000 deductible. My rate went down about a dollar per month. O-care has neither helped nor hindered my situation. Health care remains my single largest expense, hands down. I resent the hell out of it, and in my case, O-care matters not a whit. No relief here.

S, who is also a CA state retiree (correctional officer, 'middle-middle-class') makes about $20k more than I do. His rate droped nearly 50% through his ex-employer, with significantly better coverage than I have and no deductibles. Makes no sense to me. Must be a union thing.

Several of my lower-income self-employed friends have benefited greatly from O-care. Many could not afford insurance prior to O-care but fell through the cracks to qualify for Medi-Cal or Medicare. It's a godsend for them.

That said, what I see in the pics from Lucy's link are smiling people who are finally receiving the care they need. The care providers are smiling too, so love it or hate it, obviously it's working for somebody.
