You'll have to indulge me because I LOVE to tell this story.

When I was younger, in the 80s, I indulged in all the things that would help get over my performance anxiety. There weren't too many kinds of alcohol that I wouldn't drink to achieve a purpose.

I spent 11 years not touching a drop ('87-'98). When I did decide to try to see if I had matured (I had), I realized that there are very few drinks that I enjoy.

I will drink the aforementioned grand old drink of the South, mixed with Diet Coke (If I'm out) or Diet Wild Cherry Pepsi©.

When I got back to New Jersey ('98), I was a regular at a Friday night karaoke joint. I had been going for about two years when I asked the bartender to put some Southern Comfort© in my Diet Coke. he was shocked. he had never seen me indulge in alcohol.

About a year later, I said: "Paul, I feel like having a drink but I don't know what I want."

He said: "Well, you like that sweet crap." (I don't know where the idea that Southern Comfort© is sweet comes from but that seems to be the consensus).

Anyway, Paul asked me if I'd ever had a Buttery Nipple (which contains one of the other of the few adult beverages I'll drink), I said I hadn't.

After having 14 or so, in one sitting, I can tell you that the stuff is liquid crack. I didn't realize there was any effect until I tried to stand and had no legs.

For those that don't know; one of the old style shot glasses with the white line around the glass is best. You fill the glass to the bottom of that white line with Butterscotch Schnapps. Then, you slowly pour Bailey's Irish Cream© on the top, trying not to mix the two together.

The karaoke joint I referenced was in the lounge of a bowling alley in Middlesex County. Paul was a Brooklyn paisan who worked, during the day as a letter carrier.

Ah, I thought it was a popular Woodbridge joint, back in the day.
You'd know that Paul if you ever went there...he was a fixture.

For those who aren't keeping up, I had a great week. A rum and diet sounded like a perfect fit, so I had one (ok, two) tonight.

I love DeKuyper Buttershots; it's low in alcohol content & tastes like a liquid version of those yellow cellophane wrapped butterscotch drops. I will sometimes mix it w/cream or half n half just for added decadence, but usually will drink it straight down the hatch. YUM.

If I'm in the mood for something stronger, I like Absolut Apeach w/ dragonfruit flavor vitamin water, a splash of seltzer & it does not have to contain ice. This one I'd have to either make at home or somehow squirrel a bottle of the latter to whatever club I go to as most clubs don't stock Vit. H2O.

And actually it was IN a Buttery Nipple that I first tasted the Buttershots, but the Bailey's makes it TOO sweet, so I merely eliminated the Irish Cream, but I agree w/ the awesome taste to which DS alludes.

I think you're referring to the asshole that always wore a cowboy hat? I worked with the idiot, very briefly.

I was in a band with his step-son and introduced the lad to his wife.

If it is the same guy, he lived in Edison but made the karaoke circuit (all over the county) fairly regularly.
