I hate to say it, but I can't say I'm sorry to hear the news. Maybe it will put an end to a lot of bad things.

Must admit I won't miss him either.

Still, I hope that what seems to have been a troubled soul may find the peace that eluded him in life.

Hmm... it seems God does take out the trash. So much for that being woman's work.

An interesting and (imho) moving response to the news:

My final prayer is that people do show up to his funeral as a show of pageantry. I hope they show up with large, decorated signs and billboards. I hope they line the streets leading to the funeral home, and I hope that they make sure they are seen. Finally, I hope every one of those billboards and signs read, “We forgive you.”

Maybe that little sign of love will do something to the remaining members of WBC, and show them that a life filled with hate is really no life at all, but that a life filled with love is the only way to live. I strongly believe that true Christianity – and what I mean by that is simply people following Christ in doing exactly what Christ wanted us to do – is simply having love for everyone, even your enemies, and fighting for justice throughout the world (1 John 3:23, Micah 6:8, John 13:35).

So, Fred, may you be released from the bondage of hate and bigotry, and may God prepare your heart and soul for eternity. Maybe one day in the ever after, I can look you in the eyes and say this to you face-to-face: I forgive you. May you also be able to forgive yourself.

Amen.

I realize that publicity is what his "church" craves more than anything, but I don't care. I believe it would be morally wrong to allow him to be buried in peace, or for any services in his memory allowed to be conducted with dignity and respect.

I think you're confusing morality with vengeance.

I have no love for the man nor his followers. But tempting though the options be, I'm with dc.

According to the report, he was excommunicated from his "church" in 2013.

That caught my attention too. I wonder what the story is.

I am not saying anyone is wrong or right. That is a personal decision for you on this subject. I am a service member. Right now, right here. He has caused pain to My many brothers and sisters families. I am not god. I am not perfect. It made Me sick watching him and his followers doing this to the people who died defending his right to do so. So guess what? I now want to exercise My same right. I hate this man to My core. Does it make Me the same as him? Maybe, but I haven't yet done anything but verbalize it. This man made it a daily exercise for himself.

Not vengeance, Muse. Justice. Granted, they can look a lot alike sometimes.

And maybe you missed it, but DC's cut and paste was commenting on how a protest might be conducted, not saying it shouldn't happen.

Hmmm... One wonders what will become of his 'church' after his hateful influence is gone?

Personally, I would like to rent a B29 fill the bomb bay up with bovine produced semi solid fertilizer, and well, make sure the area around his grave has green grass, delivery to happen while services are going on of course.

It's fun to play with ideas, Jlf, but my guess is that any funeral for him will be conducted as secretly as they can manage. It's the cowardly way to handle it, and why should we ever expect more than that from these scumbags?

I can't think of anything that would infuriate his followers more - the more so, the more it looks sincere.

Were I in the right place, at the right time, I think my sign might say, "God is love. Good luck with that, Fred."

And I'd have "Highway to Hell" playing as loudly as possible when they lowered the casket.
