I`m a little tickled....... by the neo-cons here bashing what is the natural result of their party`s vile and disgusting anti-homosexual rhetoric...

(WASHINGTON, DC) – Reports linking Vice President Al Gore with notorious anti-gay activist Fred Phelps, Jr., and the Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas were confirmed with the release of photographs showing Gore at a fundraiser at the home of Fred Phelps, Jr., who told the Conservative News Service on October 16 that he served as a Gore delegate on the floor of the Democratic National Convention in Atlanta in 1988.

Gore, who was quoted by the Nashville Tennessean in 1984 saying homosexuality is not "an acceptable alternative that society should affirm" and said in his 1984 US Senate race that he would not accept money from gay rights organizations and that he opposed a "gay bill of rights," reportedly sought the support of the Phelps family in his 1988 presidential campaign, and invited the Phelpses to the Clinton-Gore inaugurations of January 1993 and January 1997.

Yep. The neo-cons....

Awwww.

Does anyone really think the rash of anti-gay legislation coming from republican legislators is just a coincidence?

Conventon has it that we ought not speak ill of the dead. Or as in this case those about to die.

Have a look at the link I posted, tweak: the arsewit has left the building, at last.

As for your other point, I've never held with not speaking ill of somebody, just because they've died, particularly if you never had a good word for them* when they were still breathing and making a tit of themselves. To me, that smacks of the vilest form of mealy mouthed hypocrisy. Fuck that.

*("Cunt" doesn't count.)

It looks like the sad old man has left us. I can't imagine there will be any need to pass the tissues.

If there is a God, then I suspect Phelps is about to find out whether that God really does hate gays. People who are as virulently anti-gay as Phelps was (at least in public - who knows what he got up to in his private life? ) are more about exorcising their own gay demons that spreading the word of the Lord IMHO.

These queer bashing Bible thumpers seem to get caught in flagrante delecto with rent boys far too often for it to be considered an individual abberation .......

Please note that I said sentiment, not principle. Kirata has no honor (this is not the first time he is insulted my character without cause) therefore his words are meaningless and I give them no credence. I had expected better from you, though. I am curious to understand why you agree with Kirata and think I have no principles.

Also, please consider that fact that Fred Phelps dedicated his life to making other people miserable . . . I do not therefore see why death should give him a pass from the opprobrium he has so richly earned.

If that's an insult to your character, you're pretty thin skinned.

1) "someone"
2) it's speculative

If it's giving you pause, then maybe he's on to something.

But also,
3) his statement doesn't judge it either, but observes it.

And frankly, I frequently see people violating their principles day to day, and continue to believe they "have" them. It *is* an interesting human trait.

I do get how being pulled up short isn't fun. I once mentioned to someone that "old behaviors" were creeping in. He pointed out that they weren't old behaviors if I was still doing them. Ouch. But spot on. And it stung not because I'd been insulted, but because I was presented with the truth, despite the justification I'd been feeding myself.

And I'm not judging or criticizing you either. I'm making an observation, one that's not hard to see people doing.

Your role was just presenting an off the rack example.

Suggestion -- move on with your day.

I am at a loss to understand your complaint. I said nothing about or to you, nor did I agree with K's remarks. I made what I thought was, and intended to be an impersonal comment about the lack of principle in public life. It was most definitely not directed at you.

If you feel offended then I am sorry that you do but I remain mystified how I may have contributed to that feeling.

[EMPHASIS MINE]

I wasn't responding to Kirata. What would be the point?

I am thicker skinned than you could possible imagine. I have nothing against good natured teasing but outright character assault is another mater. I am an affable guy who believes in acknowledging the limits of our knowledge (everyone is ignorant about most things but few seem to realize this) and giving people the benefit of the doubt. I try to be respectful and I expect a certain level of respect from people in return. What I expect I demand. If people are unwilling to grant me the respect I deserve then fuck 'em. They are not worth responding to.

Tweakabell, on the other hand, is a poster I do respect so when she makes a post that appears to question my character by agreeing with someone like that, I simply would like to know why.

Seems tweak is just as confused by your reaction as I am.

And you're right back to a perceived attack on your character.

I'm wasting my time here. Enjoy your day, with indignation if you like.

The only purpose behind Kirata's post was to insult me (despite what others, in an obvious act of willful blindness, may proclaim). That didn't actually bother me since I have no respect for his opinions. Your statement, however seemed contingent on agreement with his obvious implication that my willingness to exempt Fred Phelps from the general prohibition against speaking ill of the dead constituted a lack of principles on my part. I do respect your opinions. I don't always agree with them but you at least post actual arguments and not just nasty snark for the purposes of an ego stroke at someone else expense. For that reason I sought clarification.

I accept that you did not intend to insult me and I apologize if my doubts about your post offended you.

And now, to get back on topic:
