Don't restrain me and you shouldn't hurt me. Simple as that. Try it and I get nasty, fists flying.

Edited to clarify.

Hard for the fists to fly when they are chained to a bench. Just sayin [8D]

Exactly![:D]

Chain me down or I'm liable to hit you. I fight the chains instinctively... It's why my name is FightingChains.

Ironically, my restraints often keep both myself and my other far, far safer.

littlewonder -> RE: Poll about BDSM activity requiring hospitalization (3/19/2014 6:17:18 PM)

I don't fight the chains or him at all. It's just normal bodily reflexes for me. When he hits me my body just reflexes and he's usually just in the way without my realizing it.

He's been trying to teach me more self control in this area to keep him safe mostly, but I'm of the opinion that it's impossible to tame reflexes.

UllrsIshtar -> RE: Poll about BDSM activity requiring hospitalization (3/19/2014 6:20:10 PM)

I have the self-control, but only when provoked to be stubborn. And if I'm provoked to be stubborn instead of jello, play isn't funtime anymore but competition instead.
If I stop flailing around, something is seriously off.

I do not use chains Myself, but it is good to see you can hang a little (pun intended?) and have some fun with it as well. [:D]

FightingChains -> RE: Poll about BDSM activity requiring hospitalization (3/19/2014 6:32:43 PM)

Chains, metal cuffs, leather cuffs, rope, whatever.

And I recommend a gag, too. People don't like a smartass bottom, or threats between screams. [:D]

Oh... not so. I prefer the SAM's sometimes. They make Me get creative. <nods>

How about my tendency to threaten when things actually do get tough? [;)]

"You hit me like that again I'm going to grab that baseball bat and shove it up your ass!"
He grins evilly at me chained to the ground on my knees. "You really shouldn't give me ideas. But a few more whacks before then."

Evil bastard haha.

shiftyw -> RE: Poll about BDSM activity requiring hospitalization (3/19/2014 7:54:02 PM)

Never been hospitalized.

I did see an endo who scared my top into no longer doing breath play once my goiter developed (and kinda implied Top may have caused "trauma to my thyroid").

Paging edgier players like LadyPact, Kana, Ishtar, ResidentSadist, etc!

ROFL, yeah.

BTW, it's so freaking weird that I'm on that list. I don't believe I belong there. Unlike them, I'm sane. [8D]

Lynnxz -> RE: Poll about BDSM activity requiring hospitalization (3/19/2014 8:35:27 PM)

What the heck, what are people doing that sends them to the hospital? Did you 'lose' the dildo?

Never been to the hospital for kink related issues. Gave myself a bit of a gash when I sat on my heels once, but nothing too serious.

Yeah... uh huh... (that's me vigorously nodding my head in total agreement).

Now if we could just get your husband to confirm that to remove any shred of doubt that might still exist in other people's eyes.....

I think we're talking major cuts, breaks, serious muscle damage, internal injuries, burns... Well the list goes on.

But as long as you're safe not stupid, BDSM play doesn't need to be that dangerous at all. I play hard, but I've never had an issue like that beyond bruising, slight cuts, red welts etc, both from a top and bottoming perspective.

You want your partner to want to play with you again, and/or at least get something out of it that doesn't include a stay in the ER. Just forethought is all that's needed, right?

CynthiaWVirginia -> RE: Poll about BDSM activity requiring hospitalization (3/20/2014 3:17:40 AM)

No, I've never needed medical attention from BDSM play and neither have any of my partners.

We almost did, a few months back, after our New Year's Eve party. I had bo up in the swing when the pulley fell out of the ceiling. We were lowering it at the time (I think I wanted the other Hitachi or something like that) and I saw what was happening. I only hurt my back a little bit seeing to it that he was safe, didn't need medical care, and the soreness went away in 2-3 weeks.

I've suddenly remembered another time. [:(] I did NOT go to a doctor though. It was FUNNY, even though I felt grouchy at the time (it doesn't do much good to tell someone who's deeply in subspace to "STOP THAT!" or "HOLD the F*CK STILL DAMMIT!!!"). Two of my old back fracture sites were...disturbed. To the degree that I couldn't stand upright without gripping the wall and walking my hands up it. The intense pain this caused...um...made me lose all bladder control. He spent three weeks putting towels under me for when I got out of bed or off of the couch. (But this doesn't count because I did NOT go to the hospital, lol.)

This time was long after the time when I had him bent over the back of the couch and...he kept tipping the whole couch over and I had to catch both him and the couch about a dozen times, while roaring out "Keep your feet on the floor!" I had him make a board to strap his ankles to that I can stand on, so this isn't a problem anymore. The couch was a four person couch with two of the seats Lazy Boy Recliner type...it was heavy and I'm surprised I didn't get a hernia or worse.

It's interesting that most of those injuries that did happen would be easily explained with 'I slipped' or 'I caught my hand on the elevator when moving furniture'.

So there most likely wouldn't be the need to disclose anything that shocked your granny.

The birthday candle incident was a grisly exception. I can't think of an innocent explanation for that one, though it *should* have been easily avoidable through safe play. That poor woman.

LadyConstanze -> RE: Poll about BDSM activity requiring hospitalization (3/20/2014 3:57:02 AM)

In all fairness, I have seen some pretty horrendous scars and injuries that resulted from BDSM play, but the majority of cases it was often solo play or people really being effing stupid. Any idiot should know that using any kind of pencil as sounds is not a good idea, whipping somebody with wires, same thing, inserting a tampon in the anus and leaving it there for hours, nobody should be surprised if they end up in the ER for removal (hint, they are build to absorb moisture)

I'm actually more concerned about people who don't end in the hospital straight away, some idiot who keeps hitting kidneys, doesn't mean you are always straight in the hospital, but a few years down the line your kidneys might just start failing due to the trauma. People playing with tools and toys that haven't been properly cleaned...

Some activities are inherently risky, the damage a whip can do if somebody has no control over it, anything that is invasive, breaks the skin, you can be careful but there will always be a risk left, on the other hand, you can cross a road and be killed. I don't buy into the SSC, simply because there is no safety in anything and people get lured into some false security that makes them careless. RACK is so much more apt and it reminds both fractions of their responsibility.

I possibly get hell for this, but I've seen a lot more subs or bottoms breach the consensual rule than tops, simply by not disclosing medical issues or phobias, it's one of the reasons why I don't do much casual play anymore, of course I will ask about medical issues or pre-existing conditions, but somebody not mentioning that they are diabetic (which changes the way you can play dramatically, it really IS worth mentioning) or prone to asthma, etc. Seriously, it SHOULD be disclosed, because my urge to play tends to disappear when somebody says "No health problems only limit are scars and permanent damage" and then I probe and it turns out they easily suffer panic attacks when tied up, are claustrophobic (not the first thing you ask somebody who wants to be tied up and whipped, you think they would disclose it straight away) and all that. Apart from plain old stupidity (see above) not mentioning health problems is how accidents happen....
And if I can't trust somebody to be honest about their health, I can't trust them enough to play with them. In the end it's the D-type who would get raked over the coals, legally or by the community.

I was going to bold the parts I especially agreed with, but it's pointless. The entire thing is extremely correct and accurate.

AthenaSurrenders -> RE: Poll about BDSM activity requiring hospitalization (3/20/2014 4:37:08 AM)

Good post LadyC.

Have you really seen someone who used a pencil as a sound? How are these people functioning in the world?

You make an excellent point about subs not disclosing medical issues. There's always the risk of something unexpected popping up, but if you know and you're holding back that's totally unfair to the dominant. The sub might think it's no big deal and shouldn't make a difference, but the dom has every right to make an informed decision about whether it's worth the risk.
