ORIGINAL: LadyConstanze In all fairness, I have seen some pretty horrendous scars and injuries that resulted from BDSM play, but the majority of cases it was often solo play or people really being effing stupid. Any idiot should know that using any kind of pencil as sounds is not a good idea, whipping somebody with wires, same thing, inserting a tampon in the anus and leaving it there for hours, nobody should be surprised if they end up in the ER for removal (hint, they are build to absorb moisture) I'm actually more concerned about people who don't end in the hospital straight away, some idiot who keeps hitting kidneys, doesn't mean you are always straight in the hospital, but a few years down the line your kidneys might just start failing due to the trauma. People playing with tools and toys that haven't been properly cleaned... Some activities are inherently risky, the damage a whip can do if somebody has no control over it, anything that is invasive, breaks the skin, you can be careful but there will always be a risk left, on the other hand, you can cross a road and be killed. I don't buy into the SSC, simply because there is no safety in anything and people get lured into some false security that makes them careless. RACK is so much more apt and it reminds both fractions of their responsibility. I possibly get hell for this, but I've seen a lot more subs or bottoms breach the consensual rule than tops, simply by not disclosing medical issues or phobias, it's one of the reasons why I don't do much casual play anymore, of course I will ask about medical issues or pre-existing conditions, but somebody not mentioning that they are diabetic (which changes the way you can play dramatically, it really IS worth mentioning) or prone to asthma, etc. Seriously, it SHOULD be disclosed, because my urge to play tends to disappear when somebody says "No health problems only limit are scars and permanent damage" and then I probe and it turns out they easily suffer panic attacks when tied up, are claustrophobic (not the first thing you ask somebody who wants to be tied up and whipped, you think they would disclose it straight away) and all that. Apart from plain old stupidity (see above) not mentioning health problems is how accidents happen.... And if I can't trust somebody to be honest about their health, I can't trust them enough to play with them. In the end it's the D-type who would get raked over the coals, legally or by the community. I was going to bold the parts I especially agreed with, but it's pointless. The entire thing is extremely correct and accurate.
