Fast reply.

No. Not for Me and not for a partner. However, I do know a couple of people who have had ER trips over play. One was from a take down scene that resulted in a broken wrist.

If you also want to count all stuff that resulted from BDSM in it's entirety, when I researched material for the DM class, every DM that I consulted with ten years or more of experience said the thing that caused the most accidents/need for medical care would be trips and falls. Usually attributed to women wearing high heeled shoes or drinks spilled in the play space.

Kana -> RE: Poll about BDSM activity requiring hospitalization (3/20/2014 2:24:56 PM)

Nope-Never been to the hospital myself as a result of BDSM. Nor have I put anyone else there.
Why you ask?
Because I might be an edge player but I ain't stupid.

I wanna say one thing in my defense and perhaps as a safety tip as well. For all those who are like, "Well don't hit me unless you chain me."
Be careful.
It's really really easy to throw joints out and when the rest of the body is thrashing around and it's pinned down and can't move, joints are the thing that gives. If you're doing hard play and the person AKA victim is the sort that flops and struggles, make sure they are really tightly restrained, as in almost unable to move and that they can't put undue stress on any joints.
Now my mouse, she's a spazmodic chica, just go nuts. Breaks binds, tears through ropes. So for me to bind her safely would involve lots of time doing that, meaning far less time for screams, begging, shrieking and making those little eeking sounds that make my heart go all aflutter. So I usually don't bind her to tight.

(Course most guys don't do full strength cunt whipping with straps and belts either. They usually kinda pad the blow. C'est la Vie. The compromises I have to make with slave mortality. Sigh.)

Generally I tie her enough to keep her reasonably restrained, but not where she could dislocate a shoulder or anything.

Trust me-I've seen it happen. More than once.
It's nasty. A bad bad way to end a scene, and embarrassing to when it happens in the local dungeon.

So be cautious about this shit. Crazy, but careful is a good game plan.

And for fucks sake, if you don't know what your doing like catheter boy upthread, ask a nurse. There's only like 10 freaking billion of em into BDSM. Can't swing a dead cat by the tail w/o hitting three in most BDSM gatherings I've been to.

You may now return to your regularly scheduled program.

I answered no to both me and my partner but I did end up in the hospital. The hospitalization was not due to the BDSM.

I did have to call my safe word (actually safe gesture) during a prolonged bondage scene and be taken to the hospital. My diverticulitis did flare up during a prolonged mummification scene. For those familiar with diverticulitis know symptoms can happen rapidly going from no symptoms to high pain in just a few hours. The safe word system we had set up worked just fine and allowed me to communicate the scene need to stop. One night in the hospital with IV antibiotics and a dose of oral antibiotics took care if it. While I did end up in the hospital, it had nothing to do the BDSM scene. Just a reality of life and bad timing for a person who suffers from diverticulitis.

An aside, but,

Kana- I ADORE your new profile picture.

The rocketship underwear are one of my FAVORITE Calvin & Hobbes storylines.

I particularly am in love with the strip where he says "whats the point of wearing your favorite rocketship underwear if no one asks to see them?"

I know two people that were taken to the ER, both due to stupidity.

1) Sprayed alcohol on the sub's butt to do a fire scene without realizing that the alcohol would pool in the crack of her ass....and he didn't have wet towels for safety.

2) Inexperienced with a single tail, decided to flick it up between his submissive's legs and cut her inner labia open which required stitches.

Considering that's over 20 year WIITWD, I think it shows that most have a sense of safety.

kiwisub12 -> RE: Poll about BDSM activity requiring hospitalization (3/20/2014 6:10:06 PM)

I have over 30 years of experience in the medical field - ER and Operating room - and the injuries I have seen were few and far between and completely related to solo play. Like the nitwit who put his wedding ring on his penis, and left it there for 24 hours because he was embarrassed. The worst thing about it was that the ring was made of titanium.

and really, the injuries are consistent with "vanilla" activities rather than bdsm inspired. [:D]

Maybe the fact that bdsm"ers are so cognizant of the possibility of injury that they are more cautious ....

I suspect that's the root of it right there. Certainly from my standpoint it looks like a hyperfocus on safety. For instance, despite the statistics we all know I'd be willing to bet that most BDSM'ers don't drive their cars anywhere near as safely as they do their play.

As a post grad I spent 3 years at a university hospital, I wasn't involved with patients very much as my research was linguistic (i.e. a professor needed a translation slave for his publications, PhD students are a lot cheaper than language secretaries and don't get paid for overtime), since it was rather dry, I ended up making friends with the guys in the ER, there really were hardly any BDSM related injuries, but as you said, tons of people doing stupid solo play in the most stupid manner...

They had a repeat customer who always happened to fall on a big church candle, always slipped when taking a bath by candle light and always when the wife and kids were on holiday. Some people really never learn, though his aim seemed to be perfect... Amongst females the bottle incidents seemed to be the most frequent ones. Both sexes tended to "lose" things in orifices, but I don't think garlic fingers, tips of felt pens, small chocolate bars, action figures or Barbies (the heads tend to come off so don't use them for anal or vaginal insertions) count as BDSM injuries...

A really weird one was a guy who burned his cock, balls and his belly and groin area in general with hot water, got up in the middle of the night, had the munchies and made himself pasta and knocked the boiling water over. Since they found a spaghetti strand in his pubes, completely believable (for a change).

Can't believe they don't have that warning on the box.

Can you believe it, seemed like none of the people wanted the "lost head" back...

MissImmortalPain -> RE: Poll about BDSM activity requiring hospitalization (3/22/2014 7:02:11 AM)

There isn't a box to check that says both. I have gone to the hospital and so have a couple others. So I didn't vote.

Did the ER people show you their 'trophy' collection of things removed from people's rectums? I saw the one at UUMC, it was impressive. Lots of shampoo bottles present, as well as a couple of Barbie and GI Joe heads. They'd send 'em down to Surgical Processing to sterilize and they'd go into the 'drawer o' shame' to show to newbies on the floor.

FightingChains -> RE: Poll about BDSM activity requiring hospitalization (3/22/2014 7:24:54 AM)

I continue to be amazed by how many people trip and fall on these items.

You can select more than one option :)

tiggerspoohbear -> RE: Poll about BDSM activity requiring hospitalization (3/22/2014 3:06:07 PM)

I have thick ER files in every hospital within Eastern Ontario. None are due to BDSM activities. 99.9 % are due to my being a klutz. They span decades. All I ever had to say when showing up on crutches, in a sling, limping, or unable to use a hand, crick in my neck, was tell my family "I hurt nyself". It's an ongoing joke now with family, friends, people here who know my regular posts.

I even broke my tailbone the first time I met my now Dom. We went down a wet metal staircase covered in leaves, I managed 2 steps and went down the other dozen or so right on my ass end. We were going to supper, never made it. 2 1/2 years later, I'm still in pain. I've fallen off the bed all on my own more times than I can remember, tripped or tumbled down stairs, concussions too numerous to mention. Fallen off high heels and flat sandals as well as tripped over my own feet.

So in effect, no one would be surprised by any injury that befell me. They'd just think I'd done it to myself as usual. [sm=dunno.gif]

ShaharThorne -> RE: Poll about BDSM activity requiring hospitalization (3/22/2014 6:12:02 PM)

Someone triggered a PTSD episode during a session (pushed me over a very hard limit) and my Master was not around to calm me down...nightmares, could not sleep...I took too many pills to make myself sleep. Alexis and Debra called the hospital and I was put in an institute where they got me off of one pill, put me on another that allowed me to sleep.

Now the pills I take have turned my libido off. I don't go out and if I want alcohol, I get it in Austin. I get 3 pills from my mental health people so I can be balanced and sleep. I am not looking for anyone anymore.

InHisHeart -> RE: Poll about BDSM activity requiring hospitalization (3/24/2014 7:14:41 PM)

I voted no for me and no for Master.
