example: you wind up in the hospital because you decided to try something new with someone you like/trust. Friends and or family will probably find out that you're in the hospital, and will probably think that you were attacked, or abused. So letting a select few people know would probably be a good idea. It's definately better than ambushing everyone while you're in the hospital!

As much as I applaud someone (for once LOL) thinking things through before hand I gotta agree this seems like an awful lot of borrowing trouble. Maybe you should run a poll here and ask if people have ever been hospitalized for their BDSM activity?

Don't feel bad. Some of the crap I worried about before I got serious with my dynamic with Carol makes me laugh hysterically now. That doesn't change the fact that I am pleased I worried about them... sign of a good man and all that...

BDSM activities have never caused me to go to the hospital.

But, vanilla activities have.

Yup, same here - no to BDSM, yes to vanilla.

Vanilla ones have. BDSM ones haven't. Though I kind of like the idea of a few that would.

I did sprain my arm one time. As a result, if tied standing, I slip out of the heels first.

But I pulled my back this winter slipping on the ice. No amount of yelling red would have fixed that.

Had somebody faint on me because his blood sugar dropped, I knew he had an issue with diabetes and had glucose with me, so it wasn't an issue.

I ended in the hospital with a sprained ankle, slipping on some lube that had dropped on the floor - does that count as a BDSM action, as it was in a dungeon....

Neither I, nor any of my partners, have ever needed hospital care as the result of BDSM play. My hospital visits have all been related to my reproductive system, with the exception of needing stitches after falling on some broken pottery. I never even broke a bone during childhood, despite having a few accidents that could easily have resulted in serious injury.

LOLOL, thank you for that. I think we need to submit that to the BDSM oversight committee for a ruling.

Aside from my 'introduction' to the scene (which should have sent me to the doctor, but I was a tough guy), the closest thing to an 'in-scene' injury I can think of was mashing my hand against an elevator door while moving a wheeled cage into the playroom of the club I worked at. I did go to the ER, but it was just a bone bruise and I was sent home. Does that count?

Bah, I was really pissed off, as I looked so forward to whipping that guy...

To be honest, I'm actually surprised that nothing "serious" ever happened, for a while I played almost exclusively with pretty serious masochists and do like some edge play, but again if you prepare and you're careful, it's fine. But I'm sometimes shaking my head if somebody who has a pace maker wants to do a bit of electric play above the waist and will tell you that somebody else actually did it on both nipples... Ehh, sorry, I like edge play but I'm not a stupid risk seeker.

Does pregnancy count?

Nope, I've never been hospitalized due to kink. I have been due to vanilla stuff, and due to physical non-consensual abuse.

I don't deem it unlikely that I ever would be hospitalized over kink though. It's just that with the effort we put into avoiding that, it hasn't happened yet so far.

Edited to add: My solo play is far more dangerous than anything I've ever done with a partner, but your millage may vary on that of course...

Nope. Never. Not for bdsm activities.

Now that's not to say I haven't been injured. Sure as hell I have been. I just didn't go to the hospital because I hate hospitals and doctors.

But even if I did, what's the big deal? If they asked what happened, I just tell them. If my family or friends asked me why I was there, again, I'd just tell them. I'm a big girl and an adult. I think I can handle it and if they can't, that's their issue, not mine.

I've already had nurses and docs ask about cuts and bruises. I simply told them I like rough sex. They rolled their eyes, shrugged their shoulders and that was it.

It's not different than when I went to the hospital because like an idiot I was drunk one night, hopped onto the hood of a moving car and went flying off, ending up with a concussion. Know what I told my family? Exactly what happened. Yeah, they called me stupid and my sisters laughed at me. So what? They all got over it.

ETA: I don't have a problem though if I do have to go to a hospital for bdsm play. I'm sure it will happen one day. It just hasn't yet by sheer luck and paying attention. Shit happens, that includes in bdsm.

Knew a guy once who slipped in some lube during a really enthusiastic whipping exhibition. Didn't go to the hospital, but it was damn funny, and there were a lot of Charlie Brown references thrown around that night, does that count?

ha...that reminds me of how much of a klutz I am and how many times I've accidentally hurt Master during our bdsm adventures.

Honestly! They were all accidents!

I think he's been hurt more than me at times.

Yeah same here... there is a reason I advocate restraining me if you want to hurt me. Not doing so, fully and properly puts your balls at serious risk, cause somehow, hooded, with no sense of up or down... I'm still always able to find those...

First off do not be surprised when this gets moved down to "polls and random stupidity". Second I think this is a very well inspired topic. LP and I are very careful in things We do, and if We do not know, We seek out the experts who do know and are willing to teach. Granted it has been a while since We have needed to, but We would if necessary.

Reminds Me of the one thing most of us had seen in the past year, year and a half about the one girl who severely burned a bottom using birthday candles. Not the kind of candles to ever be used because of how extremely hot they burn. All of that could have been avoided with a few keystrokes worth of research. Very sad that now this poor girl will walk around with these horrible scars for life.
