We should have someone post it in P&R... 1, 2, 3, NOT IT!

MalcolmNathaniel -> RE: 10,000 Daleks Chanting (3/23/2014 8:04:01 PM)

Might not be a bad idea.

You will never convince a Whovian that Daleks aren't scary and you'll never convince a non-Whovian that they are.

Now the weeping angels on the other hand...

I consider myself a Whovian. Granted, I haven't reached the point where I would be the person Moffatt calls for clarification on some small point, but many friends (and most of my family) know that it is suicidal to disturb me during anything Doctor - related (or Torchwood. It's just as dangerous).

All that being said, the Daleks themselves have never frightened me (I suspect it's because of the egg whisk). Now, some of the situations where The Doctor has come up against them have had me gnawing on my knuckles.

Weeping Angels? Anytime I find myself near statuary, now, I can't help that little frisson that stays with me until I am safely home again! :D

LadyConstanze -> RE: 10,000 Daleks Chanting (3/24/2014 3:21:42 AM)

Daleks look like blinged up metal rubbish containers with a toilet plunger attached, and they sound funny. The Weeping Angels however... DON'T EVEN BLINK

theshytype -> RE: 10,000 Daleks Chanting (3/24/2014 7:51:17 AM)

Greedy, you've managed to escape eating a dust kitty.
I made it halfway through "Blink", until I was interrupted, and am intrigued. It did have a creepy factor and reminded me a bit of Tales from the Darkside, which I loved back in the day.

I'll have to finish that episodes, catch a few more, and if my interest remains then it appears I have quite a bit of catching up to do.

GreedyTop -> RE: 10,000 Daleks Chanting (3/24/2014 9:46:20 AM)

After Blink, watch The Empty Child. Trust me.

MercTech -> RE: 10,000 Daleks Chanting (3/24/2014 4:15:37 PM)

I always thought Daleks looked like an over engineered redneck sex toy.

But, trust me, if you play that Dalek voice from a pocket recorder right behind someone nodding off in class; be prepared to pry fingernails out of the ceiling.

Exterminate!....

littlewonder -> RE: 10,000 Daleks Chanting (3/24/2014 8:22:17 PM)

creepy!

DomKen -> RE: 10,000 Daleks Chanting (3/24/2014 8:51:50 PM)

Weeping angels are easily the creepiest villains ever.

shiftyw -> RE: 10,000 Daleks Chanting (3/24/2014 8:55:41 PM)

Weeping angels are pretty diabolical.

Daleks I feel like...that egg beater is just hard to take seriously, but I get the fear and I find them interesting. Also, isn't it back on yet? Its killing me with all this time off.

The new show runner apparently can't write both Who and Sherlock at the same time and he writes both very slowly.

Someone needs to light a fire under Moffat's ass...

VERY creepy! From now on, I'll be especially aware of any such statues.

I told my husband about the episode and how this thread highly recommended it, and the series. So, he started it over. My gosh, I can't believe how even creepier it became.
After having watched that, we were both intrigued and watched season one, episodes 1 & 2. Probably would have kept going, but The Following and then Bates Motel came on.

FrostedFlake -> RE: 10,000 Daleks Chanting (3/25/2014 5:05:09 AM)

It's a conspiracy!

ShaharThorne -> RE: 10,000 Daleks Chanting (3/25/2014 5:26:38 AM)

Sherlock is 3 episodes, 90 minutes long. Doctor Who is usually 8 to 12 episodes, some being 2 parters.

Mom asked me to fix the computer to where she can watch Revenge today. She did not get to watch it Sunday night because she was in Arkansas. After that, I am watching Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D....been missing a few episodes myself because Mom and I watch NCIS.

Had to post this here. Read the comment section.

I am not making this up:

In 2010 I had just broken up with my girl and I moved back in with my father for a few weeks. My little brother was in the middle of a divorce so he was there as well. I was upset and rather firm on this point:

"At 8:00 PM on Christmas day the Doctor Who Christmas Special is on. I have to watch your sports all year long, but on this one occasion I am watching what I want at exactly the time it comes on. This is the only show all year long I want to watch immediately."

My brother who thinks The Doctor is silly hied himself off to the bar. My father watched it with me. Twenty minutes in HE KNOCKED FOUR TIMES!*

It was a cop. My little brother's house was behind my father's and up the hill. Since the cop knew my brother and where he lived he came and got us out for this. BTW: This was IN THE FUCKING MIDDLE OF THE DOCTOR WHO SPECIAL.

The tennant* * renting my brother's house had gone nuts. The cops had to knock the door in to prevent the wife holding the baby out the window ready to drop him. The guy and his wife had been smoking a "legal marijuana replacement" was having flashbacks to the war and thought the chimneys on the neighbors houses were enemy soldiers sneaking up on him. So he took a samurai sword and started slicing at everything.

I had to track my little brother down in the bar so we could go with the cop and lock the house down (it being in a bad neighborhood and no longer having a door.)

This would be an interesting anecdote except for one thing:

THE BASTARD PICKED THE TIME THE DOCTOR WAS ON TO GO BATSHIT CRAZY! He couldn't have waited another forty minutes to go insane!? How rude!

To this day I put a sign on the door during the Christmas Special:

The Doctor is on.
If you knock I will shoot through the door and then ask you what you want.

I made none of that up.

*Any Whovian will get the reference.
**Accidental misspelling but works for this story.

On a related note:

David Tennant and Catherine Tate were in a modernized version of Billy Waggle Pointy Stick's "Much Ado About Nothing." You can find it on your favorite medium for watching videos. I haven't watched it myself (having only heard about it moments ago) but I will be watching it very shortly.

I agree. Actually, the cybermen always scared me more, even as a kid. (My mum and dad used to call them 'the simonmen' for that reason.) It was something to do with the cybermen having once been humans but who'd been turned into machines. The forerunners of the Borg in Star Trek - which also scared the pants off me.

PeonForHer -> RE: 10,000 Daleks Chanting (3/28/2014 4:11:23 AM)

FR

Absolutely crucial viewing for all Whovians, especially if they're fans of the Proclaimers. The cast and crew of Doctor Who do 'I Will Walk 500 Miles'. Enjoy!
