Status: offline 		Same way you do BlondFluff, but I'll go one step farther. I'll drop whatever I can whenever I can to come to a friend if they need me. Anytime day or night. And the friend I have/had would do the same.

Status: offline 		I had more friends when I lived in large communities: the military, yoga center, and ashram, which were bonding experiences that threw us together. At regular jobs, people are more wrapped up in their outside lives.

My sister has always been better at maintaining relationships with people with whom she does not have regular in person contact.

In all seriousness, because we move around every few years, I almost *have* to wrap My head around the idea that I want to make friends. When we go from place to place, I don't get to be a spectator in life. I have to be an active participant if I want stuff like who is going to be there in an emergency or who can I call at 3:00 AM. I don't have the 'hey, I've lived here for twenty years' kind of thing going on. I have to invest in those bonds. It really can be done.

Status: offline 		It can be done LadyP. At one point I had moved 12 times in 13 years. For no other reason than I moved. I was lucky at the time, I made a great group of core friends back in my late teens. A few of them are the ones I know I could call any time of the day or night & they'd be there.

The same here, I have a few very solid friends for whom I would literally give my life. Miss fluff is one, another is a beloved Dom here. I've also made other friends here, not as close, but they matter to me.

I have very close friends from my early grade school years. One I hadn't seen in over 30 years. The day we met was like no time had passed. We picked up right where we left off and can (& have) talked for hours about everything and nothing.

So, if you want, and I know we haven't interacted much on the boards, count me as a friend too. The more the merrier I say.

The bolded sentence is what keeps me from actively seeking out new friends. I am at the point in my life journey that I value myself and I value my time. I didn't always, I think women need to grow and learn to make themselves a priority in their own lives. Now that I have, I don't feel that need to turn acquaintances into friends. Friendships take time, energy and commitment. I meet very few people these days that would drive me to give that much again. So I wonder, am I just happier with myself and who I am, or is it really just a rut, and a sort of emotional laziness that keeps me from adding to my list?

Status: offline 		Like LP pointed out, We move a lot. With that said, I have "friends", but I don't have many FRIENDS. I do not use FB so I can't even count them .

There is a difference. The "friends" are people whom I get stationed with from time to time, but once we move on to the next great thing, we kind of lose touch. There are many people whom I stay in pretty regular contact with both here and on Fet, and for 90% of those people, They are the FRIENDS, and if they called in the middle of the night and, of course, I had their phone numbers stored in My phone (I do not answer calls from numbers I do not know), I would absolutely pick up. Being where We are, more then likely I couldn't get there on the drop of a hat, but I sure as shit would stay on that phone until they got whatever it was they needed. I know the reverse would be true with these people.

Status: offline 		I have four people I consider friends as well! Although, one is family and one being my spouse.
I consider a friend very much the same as you. I'd drop whatever I was doing if they need me. I'll always be there for them.
Everyone else is an acquaintance.

I'm always up for making new friends and acquaintances but I'm fine without them, too, so long as I have those few.
I used to have a lot more "friends" but at one moment I took a step back and realized they were just taking up my time. They didn't have the qualities I find in friends. It wasn't worth it to me.

I used to have friends.
But, as my life has become a round of nurturing and caretaking I find that any friends that I once had have dropped off in the last 12 yrs. For a while there I rounded up some kink related friendly types while I was running a local group, but those soon dispersed elsewhere when I no longer had time for that life.
My life, friends, past-times have been cut, eliminated, or shortened by my lack of being there.
My hobbies now revolve around things I can do sitting in my room. I even stopped chatting only to find getting back in is difficult at best.
So... 0 friends for me at this time. I hope to change that once I am on my own again. To that end I have even added some of my cousins to my FB. I guess contacts are a good place to start.
Count yourself lucky to have those 4 friends.

I saw the following posted; there comes a time when you have to stop swimming oceans for people that wouldn't jump puddles for you.

I reposted this on my page, and added; I have found that it is sometimes the ones you least expect to be jumping the puddles for you that are actually swimming the oceans.

I guess I am very lucky I have found now that I really like who I am, friends are much more meaning full to me. Some of  my closet friends live thousands of miles away, there are about a dozen of them, They may not be able to be by my side at 3 AM....but if I called them and I have....they have been there to help comfort me if need be or just to smile in my joys. We get together every chance we get. I also have about 5 or 6 that are close by. I feel my life has truly blessed me with many wonderful friends......and so many more acquaintances.

Sorry Blonder I to suck at being a face book friend.....but glad that you added me.

Status: offline 		A friend for me is someone that is a step down from boyfriend/husband/partner.

A friend is that person I can tell anything to, that will call me a dumbass and then I get to do the same and the next minute we're laughing like hell. It's the person I can be myself around and just let it all loose and I know they will be honest with me but yet no hard feelings.

And 4? You're doing better than me! I have tons of acquaintances and lots that I used to call friends but lost touch with over the years. But these days I can't really say I have even one. All those on my FB are all either family or people I was friends with in high school but I haven't seen them since graduation over 25 years ago.
