ORIGINAL: TheHeretic Tell me something, Lauren. Before you post your buckets of bland, do you bother reading the other contributions at all? It's been noted repeatedly on this thread that corruption knows no party boundaries. It is, however, springtime, as far from the general elections as possible, and this is the time of year when they bust the Dems. Republican indictments will be coming much closer to November. Leland Yee was a major voice of gun control here in CA, right up to the moment it was exposed that he was conspiring with organized crime to get assault weapons (not scary-looking sport rifles, but guns with a full-auto selector) to drug dealers. Got the balls to address that? Yeah,he is a stupid, corrupt fucktard that I wish could be used for target practice..how's that? When it comes to corruption, I am not partisan, I am of the school of thought that power corrupts and scummy politicians are scummy politicians....claiming that the GOP is somehow this party of honesty and purity while the Democrats are all the evil machine politicians, are like the right wing that talk about the influence of unions 'buying elections" while ignoring the very real power of the Koch Brothers and lobbyists in general (which applies across the spectrum). I am as cynical about politicians as they come and it is equal opportunity cynicism. It is epecially despicable when an asshole like Yee, who apparently made such a big stink about guns and gun control (which is a real issue IMO), could do something that made people's live more dangerous. It is the same contempt I had for Saint Reagan and crew, when they decided they wanted to bypass congress and made deals with the Iranians to raise funds for the contras, it is the same thing, Iran was the 'evil empire' yet those assholes sold missiles to them.. anyone who violates the public trust, whether it is Marion Barry, any number of hudson county politicians, or going back in history, many members of the Harding administration, and it is people from all over the spectrum who do it. Obama deserves it for covering up the fuckheads at the NSA and trying to claim they didn't do anything illegal (like, yeah, sharing information from warrantless wiretaps with the cops, real constitutional,, Barack, this from a constitutional lawyer), there are all kinds of things and it is left and right. Often it is covered in "it was needed to protect the public' or 'I did it to help people', but that is horseshit, abuses of power are abuses of power, whether the person did it to get rich, or to get even with someone for a political slight like fatso here in NJ with his staff of moronic goons. And btw, the original post was all about Democrats in trouble, and others went on about democratic machine politics, etc, totally leaving out the GOP..so I thought I would balance. Then, too, you have someone like John McCain, who like many in the GOP, talks about Democrats and illegal voting, dirty things, corruption, but McCain was as dirty as any of them, anyone remember Charles Keating, moral crusader, who cost the government some ridiculous amount when Lincoln savings and loan was found out to be a house of cards, and McCain was one of those who acted as political bag man for him? BTW, I am pretty certain we weren't told the full truth of the Lincoln fiasco that helped take down the savings and loan insurance program or the "Keating 5" who helped him, friend of mine was a senior bank examiner with the FDIC, who when FSLIC went under took over the program, and he said a lot was covered up, including the true losses at Lincoln and other S/L's, and also with corruption in how politicians steered buddies into picking up the failed banks assets for a song..... Like I said, I despise corruption in any of its forms, but I also despise those who turn it into a one party show while ignoring 'their' parties feet of clay.
