bookitty66 -> broke in the lifestyle? (7/8/2006 4:58:18 PM)

This could just be an observation, but it does seem that the majority of the people that I have met in the lifestyle have barely been able to pay their own rent.

I have met some that are wealthy, or at least better off, but so many seem to be barely making it.

Just my area or??

A friend recently told us of an article in a financial magazine that defined "rich" in this country as having a positive net worth.  Not millions or even thousands, but just "positive."  It seems that the vast majority of the population have taken advantage of easy credit to the point that most people's debts outweigh their assets.

Cool...I knew something about me was positive...lol. But yes...it does seem that quite a few folks are marginal, but I don't know that is a necessarily the majority. I'd be guessing; but perhaps the ones without, are louder than the ones with.

People in the lifestyle are just regular people. Most people I know are not wealthy. My fantasy of serving in a large house by cooking the best meals possible for Master and his guests is just going to have to stay a fantasy.... I don't know anyone who could actually afford that kind of lifestyle.

enigmabrat -> RE: broke in the lifestyle? (7/8/2006 5:41:41 PM)

its not just in the lifestyle so many people all over are not makeing ends meet

We occasionally do what we call "Elegant Orgies."  The setting is china, silver and crystal with six or seven courses.  Usually, there are things like lobster or crown roast of lamb.  The table limits the seating to ten people (usually two or three couples and a few singles and we usually have a few service submissives doing the service.  The way we can afford to do this is the cost of the food is divided among the seated guests.

It wouldn't work as a steady diet but it's a nice event to have occasionally.

I agree that it's all over, not just in this particular lifestyle.

popeye1250 -> RE: broke in the lifestyle? (7/8/2006 6:29:08 PM)

Yes and those idiots in Washington keep trying to tell us that things like NAFTA, CAFTA, GATT, "Free Trade" deals Foreign Aid and this "Global Economy" crap are "good" for us!
Time to throw ALL of them out on their asses!

MasterCurios -> RE: broke in the lifestyle? (7/8/2006 6:34:18 PM)

this is the facts as i see it as well but the money issue doesnt play into whether or not they may be compatible or not

waiting4UDaddy -> RE: broke in the lifestyle? (7/8/2006 6:36:58 PM)

i have had the same observations as you.  I know this is going to sound shallow and will probably give everyone the wrong impression of me, however, I don't have any debt problems, and have been fortunate enough to be able to provide for myself rather nicely, and there seems to be a "difficulty" for both myself and the Doms that I meet if I earn more than they do.

Given that it seems that most marriages break up over economic issues, I'd say having similar spending/saving habits is an important part of being compatible

purelea2003 -> RE: broke in the lifestyle? (7/8/2006 6:39:16 PM)

Personally, I don't know many wealthy people outside the BDSM lifesyle either.I agree with popeye1250 - let's clear the slate this upcoming election. Toss 'em all. Then they'll know who they should be catering to - it's not special interest groups or corporations. People who are dependable and work hard should make a decent wage with benefits.

KarbonCopy -> RE: broke in the lifestyle? (7/8/2006 6:39:34 PM)

get a trade ;)

Seems to be one of the more secure ways of getting your assets in order.
So long as your not stupid with your money.

Dear book... and all...

It's no surprise that people
who live on the edges of society
who live on the edges of sensation
who live on the edges of experience

... like musicians,
..... and artists,
.........and perverts like us

also live on the edges and margins of finance.

DD,
being a  middle-class male,
my experiences have lead me to
middle class friends, colleagues, and lovers.
There's a lot of secret deviance, however,
behind that creepy grey tv glow that radiates
out of the picture window of those suburban homes.

I only wish there was more deviance
and less glow....

By all that is holy, I'm actually rich!!!!! ... because nobody in their right mind would ever extend me credit. [;)]

I'm not a money slave to a credit company either, lucky me.

LadyHugs -> RE: broke in the lifestyle? (7/8/2006 9:03:28 PM)

Dear bookitty66, Ladies and Gentlemen;

The system as it is now, enables low income, immigrants and others to suck through the funds with little effort.  Applying for Tax Relief on behalf of my widowed parent, it is evident that if you are immigrant, have income under a certain amount, you don't qualify for Tax Relief.
The penalty to scrimp and save for 60 years, barely feeding, clothing and keeping a roof over their heads, insure the car, pay for taxes, bills and all the other expenses; my parent is to rich for relief.  And, this is after a parent's death and the total income is 1/3 of original total.

That said, I would also like to mention as towards BDSM.  To create a good toy bag full of wonderful works, it costs a lot of money to 'fit' out a decent one.  One reason why those who have a healthy collection guard it carefully, as too many thefts of expensive toys happens once to often.  I won't put the price value of my collection but, it is enough to buy a new car with.

It gives great weight to establish a poly household, as to financially pool as to have money to upgrade from McDonalds to Burger King.

Respectfully submitted for consideration,
Lady Hugs

Caretakr -> RE: broke in the lifestyle? (7/8/2006 9:05:46 PM)

That's why the idea of a self sufficient poly enclave appeals Hugs. I feel like a drugless Hippie sometimes.[;)]
