Someone started a "Post your complaints here" thread (or something like that) awhile back and it was in off-topics.  As I recall, it was a really long thread!!  :)

But I agree with twicehappy.  Too many threads are started complaining about others, rather than thought provoking topics that might actually make a difference.

I agree with Julia, too - you can set the timer for how fast a "fat sub" thread will grow to a million pages (about 10 minutes) while some really good sink-your-teeth-into threads fizzle.  Pity.

Well I think I have an answer to this-lack of imagination causes it. I'm fascinated by what makes things tick-I was one of those little boys that drove his parents crazy by taking appliances apart and reassembling them.

So when someone posts something prefferential, those with little or no empathy and curiosity have something to seize upon-for they feel it addresses them personally. And the more that others reenforce these same feelings-the more they feel that they are being validated by a group. So pretty soon, a "whining community" is established-misery loves company!

However, when one asks to explore alien concepts- a sense of insecurity then manifests in the ego centric mind. They can't relate, so they decline participation. Even worse, none of thier usual peers can do any better.

So the topics end up being exploited by the free thinkers until they run out of ideas, or interest. And the herd trundles off, to find something they can "be together" about.

Is it me or does there seem to be a huge number of folks starting threads who have foot in mouth disease?

I have been perusing the threads early this morning as is my wont on Sunday and i have come across numerous threads slamming the rich, the poor, the overweight, the pros and on and on ad infinitum.

Are the cm boards infected with something contagious? Did i just catch it? Do we all need new virus protection on our computers? Or is this a malady something we are passing around by sharing floggers and vibrators?

Is there a cure?

I noticed this too.  Just when we were finally emerging from the grey doldrums of winter and into the sunny and warm spring and summer months.  Unfortunately, this is also the time when the animals slowly come out of hybernation, and they are hungry

I don't believe there is a cure for this, but if there is one, it's probably worse than the disease itself.

What I have noticed unfortunately is that thought provoking threads usually die after 3 or so pages, while flamefests last up to over 20 pages.

These days, it takes a bit of the extreme to make an impression.  I forgot who said that, but he oughtta be given a pat on the back!!!

sad but true, if you are looking for acceptance, tolerance, politeness, PC you won't find it on collarme.com.

people are more interested in pointing out what is wrong, slamming you, telling you that their way is the only way.

different is not better or worse, it is just different. just agree to disagree and go on, there is life on this planet and occasionally it pops up here and makes your day.

Ok.. here is a possible solution to be filed under the "If you cn't beat them-join them" catagory.  Make an area for flaming.  When you find a flame,  the moderator move it to there.. That way, if someone enjoys reading flames, they can go there.  That way there is no censorship..

AND.. like with the indicators of how much someone posts here..they could give them a "flame" rating avitar..so you know the person is a flamer and  do what you must to live your life happily :)

This is such a great idea- CM should totally do this! OOOOO so many possiblities, so few people to impliment them

Maybe everyone this morning has PMS?  I don't want hove to mouth disease..and besides are you calling us all cows? That hurts my feelings twiceowned. Really, I'm wounded and I don't wanna play with you anymore.

Aw..... i'm sorry....kiss and make up? Not calling anyone a cow just saying sometimes it appears that we catch mad cow disease on the threads.

Besides why does everybody down cows? They give us milk, cheese, butter, meat, and leather. a more useful beast than many, i like cows.
