OMFG. This should be unbelievable, but alas . . .

Jews in the eastern Ukrainian city of Donetsk where pro-Russian militants have taken over government buildings were told they have to "register" with the Ukrainians who are trying to make the city become part of Russia, according to Ukrainian and Israeli media.

Jews emerging from a synagogue say they were handed leaflets that ordered the city's Jews to provide a list of property they own and pay a registration fee "or else have their citizenship revoked, face deportation and see their assets confiscated," reported Ynet News, Israel's largest news website.

I'm about to email the embassy; its website includes contact info at the lower right. Also the White House. Any ideas for other ways to fight this?

Obama has been completely clueless on this since the beginning.

But I'm glad you woke up even if its ipso facto.

I don't care who saw what coming. I don't care about finger-pointing (other than at the person or people responsible for these fliers). If this is happening, it needs to be stopped NOW.

To think that something like this could go on in this day and age is unfathomable.

I grew up in the 70s, hearing reports about (I KNOW I'm going to spell this wrong) Alexander Solzhenitzen. That was 40 years ago. Are we going to allow this, again?

Yep. I'm betting it's a smear to generate support for the incompetent and increasingly desperate government in Kyiv. They are running short of rabbits to pull out of their hat. The Ukrainian army has no stomach for fighting its own people. In Slovyansk, a force of 16 armored personnel carriers attached to an elite airborne unit abandoned their weapons and vehicles rather than engage villagers who blocked their passage. In Kramatorsk, six Ukrainian army armored personnel carriers and their troops switched sides to join the activists. Every event of this type weaken Kyiv's hand and make them more desperate.

Additionally, there will be no NATO intervention and no Russian annexation. Russia is referring to the activists as "pro-federalists." The more agrarian western region benefits from a forced redistribution of eastern Ukraine's industrial wealth. This is a central issue for the activists along with official recognition of the Russian language. But there is no talk of succession. Russia will intervene if necessary to protect ethnic Russians, but unlike Crimea the activists are not seeking annexation. If any of this information disagrees with news sources you have seen, ignore them. There are games within games afoot.

Really? You live in the United States and you think such things are unbelievable? Seriously?

OK, my take.

A) I've got a fair bit of skepticism going on regarding who handed this out.
B) Even if it's all legit, I don't really understand what the US has to do with it.
C) Even if the US does have some skin in this game, I would MUCH prefer that we worried about cleaning up our own human rights abuses before we go peddling truth, goodness and the americuhn way across the globe. I detest being a hypocrite.

So much as I detest Obama, I'm afraid that even if this is all legit I support the US doing not much about it.

Looking back through recent history I feel comfortable asserting that, if they had oil and we had leadership with a backbone, the US would most likely be there armed and ready by sometime tomorrow afternoon. Not that it would be a good thing...

Don't get me wrong. I'm not above trying to do some good in the world. But this nation is freakin broke and our own human rights track record is nothing to write home about. You got an entire apartheid system being setup here in the US as we speak. Much as I wish bad stuff didn't happen to people far away I'm WAY more concerned about the bad stuff my own government is doing to my neighbors.

So yeah, I prioritize based upon both need, relative geography, and available resources (among other things I'm sure)
