Well, my friend,

You have a fetish. A basic fetish that you shouldn't be embarrassed about.
Yours is cool. No way someone can be harmed by that.

Most of what is discussed is an urge that would cause irreparable injury or worse. And they know they shouldn't act on them.

I enjoy my fantasy life and it's probably what made me open to looking into alternative lifestyles. While looking at one I met an M/s couple and being in their presence made me realize how much of that dynamic I had inside of me. In fact I think he took perverse pleasure in pushing me to realize and verbalize how much I was like him. As a writer I have an outlet for my deepest and darkest. I would tend to agree with you, in that I happen to think women are, on a whole, more imaginative.

Nevertheless I have to question whether the guy who wants taken out into the woods (possibly by abduction where he's thrown into a van and hooded), made to strip naked, tied to a tree, whipped, and then left there overnight...(better be certain wild blood-thirsty animals don't prowl in them thar hills)

As many have mentioned here there is a difference between reality and fantasy. In fantasy I have a few times after thought "WOW did I really just imagine that!".
Perhaps for me the scariest was imagining being anaesthetised and waking up to find I had been completely desexed i.e. had my cock and balls removed. Being of an intelligent mind I wondered why they idea was arousing since after I would have nothing to get aroused.

The only desires I have that scare me are those in conflict with contemporary law. When people sit in prison serving a 20 year sentence for violating simple laws about oral and anal sex, in a day and age when those laws have already changed . . . that is scary. When I was born, they arrested homosexuals and/or committed them to mental institutions in an attempt to cure them. Now they legally marry them. Imagine the conflicts between the law and my erotic sado-sexual dreams!

A lot of my desires are scary, but it has nothing to do with separating fantasy from reality and everything to do with my self awareness being in conflict with the social norm.

Back in time, when I were younger many aspects of my BDSM inclination did scare me.
So I have to say yes to the question.

My former significant other and the one I see currently have given me mindfucks by presenting ideas that both are too far out for me, and basically wrong.
So I do no longer worry not even from the risk that I would say something that would shock either of them.
They're more far out than myself. =)

But yes, a little scary, if they would be taken to reality.
