And Obama is keeping his mouth shut.

The White House has two words for those who want President Barack Obama to deport Justin Bieber: No comment.

Nearly 275,000 people signed an Internet petition calling the Canadian-born teen idol reckless and asking Obama to revoke his green card. That's far more than required to merit an official response through the White House's "We the People" program.

The White House says it's sorry to disappoint, but it won't be commenting. It's citing a caveat that lets the White House decline to address certain petitions.
White House won't comment on Justin Bieber petition

He has screwed just about everything else up beyond recognition, the least he could do is deport Bieber.

Oh FFS. I can't think of anything I care about less.

Good.

Always glad to see dignity blossom along the Potomac, especially now that the cherry trees are done for the season.

Hang in there, Jlf. The White House is probably just holding this in reserve for the next time they need to radically change the subject in a hurry.

"We interrupt this coverage of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the Iranian nuclear test for breaking Bieber developments from the White House. We will now spend 45 minutes showing the podium, while the President's teleprompter is repaired."

Musicmystery -> RE: He has the chance to do one thing right... (4/19/2014 3:11:51 PM)

If so, I think they'd choose a distraction other than one that would have the majority of the country saying "Justin WHO?"

igor2003 -> RE: He has the chance to do one thing right... (4/19/2014 3:19:07 PM)

Obama's a smart man. As it is, he knows that with Bieber's presence here there are a lot of irritated US citizens. But if he deports Bieber he will piss off the Canadians as well as millions of tweenage American girls...and probably his own two daughters.

TheHeretic -> RE: He has the chance to do one thing right... (4/19/2014 3:23:12 PM)

Does it ever occur to you, Muse, that disdaining television might not leave you in the best position to keep up with what the rest of the country knows about and doesn't?

Musicmystery -> RE: He has the chance to do one thing right... (4/19/2014 3:26:23 PM)

Seriously? A nation who's primary music by FAR is country? An aging nation?

Walk down the street and do a survey. See how many can tell you who he is.

I'll put money on fewer than half.

Which is still far more than enough to change the subject, Muse. C'mon - this is exactly the kind of stuff you decry when you don't want to talk about blatant partisan bias in the media. At least try to be consistent.

enslaver -> RE: He has the chance to do one thing right... (4/19/2014 3:40:17 PM)

Obama doesn`t have a clue about what the real problems of the country are, what makes you think he`d care about a nobody like Bieber?

Musicmystery -> RE: He has the chance to do one thing right... (4/19/2014 3:41:46 PM)

You're the one always moaning about moving the goal posts. I said the majority would say "Justin Who" -- that you feel fewer than half is enough to change the subject is your gig. I'm dead on consistent. You're the dude casting about in search of a point that will stick.

TheHeretic -> RE: He has the chance to do one thing right... (4/19/2014 4:08:27 PM)

It's not moving goalposts, Muse. It's the position of the shooter you keep changing.

If you did watch what passes for news, you'd be amazed at home much coverages gets devoted to the reality shows of the various networks, and celebrity nonsense the majority cares nothing about

We had a reason to watch the local Fox news at 10 this week, because they were covering a story the wife had been directly involved in. It should have been the nice little feelgood report to end the broadcast on, but they teased it through the show, gave it a shade over 2 minutes, then went right into extended coverage of that night's American Idol to finish out the hour.

How many people really give a shit that Chelsea Clinton is pregnant, but there it is, sucking up space that could go to those Lerner emails, the latest bombings in Syria, Ebola crossing borders in West Africa, or GM pulling a Pinto.

Musicmystery -> RE: He has the chance to do one thing right... (4/19/2014 4:11:30 PM)

So again . . . not very effective, is it.

Goal posts. Keep them still, you can push stuff through them.

jlf1961 -> RE: He has the chance to do one thing right... (4/19/2014 5:03:29 PM)

He might get deported anyway for smoking pot on an airplane inside the US airspace, and the crap he pulled in Florida.

Personally, I think we should exile every elected official in the senate and congress, as well as Obama, and put heretic and muse in charge.

With Lucy as the mediator.

Works for me. I'm the one who has a gun. [;)]

Pshaw. You're in the dessert. You'll never know what's going on. You'll mostly be shooting rattlesnakes.

Let's just divide it up -- east, west, north.

dcnovice -> RE: He has the chance to do one thing right... (4/19/2014 5:46:21 PM)

I bet you'd all find you shared more values and perspectives than anyone here has ever thought. [:)]

Musicmystery -> RE: He has the chance to do one thing right... (4/19/2014 5:48:47 PM)

It's true. We debate the differences and the details, but there's far more common ground than most would suspect.

TheHeretic -> RE: He has the chance to do one thing right... (4/19/2014 5:58:21 PM)

Shhhh!

And don't think you are leaving me to deal with LA and the Bay - I get the middle, and ya'll on the edges will cooperate if you want to eat.

I wish he'd comment on this. I really do.

Here's what I'd want President Obama to say: "We have an immigration policy in place that is used to determine who is deported and who isn't. This policy will be followed with regards to Justin Bieber, as it is to every other immigrant."

That's probably more attention to this petition than it's worth, but at least the White House is making good on it's assertion that it would comment on petitions that gain enough signatures.
