missturbation -> RE: Gas!!!!!!! (7/9/2006 10:14:09 AM)

Damn thought this was gonna be the other gas kind of post lol.
Like whoopi says in ghost "i got gasssssssss"

Or maybe the kind of gas where u talk too much?

Or maybe the kind of gas a lot of people speak in these threads - the hot air kind lol.

juliaoceania -> RE: Gas!!!!!!! (7/9/2006 10:14:53 AM)

Cuddle, it was 3.20 where we buy it and has been for awhile..of course I am in California.. would you believe that they closed an oil refinery here a couple of years ago even though demand was high, because they want to charge Californians even more for their gas.

I laugh when I see people in areas with no snow where people drive things like Hummers... I laugh because these people are part of the reason we are paying out our ass for gas, and they have to pay 70 bucks to fill their tanks at least once a week if not far more... I feel no pity for these folks.

impishlilhellcat -> RE: Gas!!!!!!! (7/9/2006 10:18:24 AM)

It was $2.99 here and I thought that was crazy. Yet people still continue to blow by on the highway in those big vehicles like it was nothing.

pahunkboy -> RE: Gas!!!!!!! (7/9/2006 10:22:16 AM)

$2.85 here. i might gas up b4 it goes higher.

Level -> RE: Gas!!!!!!! (7/9/2006 10:48:52 AM)

$2.74 here now, but it was in the $2.60ish range until last week. Did any of you see where they have places where people can "lock in" the cost of gas? One guy bought into his when it was just over a dollar..... hmm.

cuddleheart50 -> RE: Gas!!!!!!! (7/9/2006 10:52:17 AM)

I wish I would have seen that Level...All I can afford to do is go to work and come home.  This is ridiculous!!!!  What are people supposed to do who don't make alot of money,....

MySweetSubmssive -> RE: Gas!!!!!!! (7/9/2006 10:53:12 AM)

$2.79 here.  I love my Honda Civic.  I just started carpooling with a co-worker, and the timing couldn't have been better.

I really do not invest in the idea of sin, but owning a Hummer or an SUV would fall into that category for me.  I was out at a store a few years ago, and in the parking lot I saw an SUV with a bumper sticker that said "Keep the Arctic National Widlife Refuge wild."  I was torn between crying at the lack of disconnect and torching the car.  Yick.

I remember paying eighty five cents a gallon in '99.  Wow!

Hang in there, cuddles. Gas is rising due to summer travel, but should drop a bit in a few weeks..... watch for it to really dip some close to mid-term elections in November [8|].

cuddleheart50 -> RE: Gas!!!!!!! (7/9/2006 11:01:49 AM)

Oh, I'm sure it will really drop then...Thank Goodness, its election year!

feastie -> RE: Gas!!!!!!! (7/9/2006 11:03:53 AM)

Yup, it's bad.  I also don't expect to see it under $2.50 again.

popeye1250 -> RE: Gas!!!!!!! (7/9/2006 11:08:46 AM)

We in S. Carolina have the cheapest gas in the country now at $2.65.
I just traded in my 2002 Ford F-150 "King Ranch" (Four Door) in May for a new 2006 Mercury Gran Marquis.
I was lucky to get 12 MPG around town with the truck, 5.4 litre engine, 25 gallon tank, 5,000 pounds.
The Mercury weighs about 1,000 pounds less, has a 4.6 Litre engine, 19 gallon tank and gets about 20 mpg around town.
Big difference!

NeedToUseYou -> RE: Gas!!!!!!! (7/9/2006 11:30:17 AM)

Yeah, gas is getting stupid, We decided we are going to buy a diesel and convert it to run off used vegetable oil. LOL. Not kidding either. It does work. I'm going to look for good diesels in the next couple weeks and the conversion kit cost about 1200.00. It won't take long to save the amount on fuel. I can get all the used vegetable I can deal with, know manager of KFC, I'm sure would not have a problem giving it to me. And my business partner knows an owner of another restaurant.

Anyway, probably be a couple months before we get one going, but free fuel. Who can beat that. If I can get it to work, would save thousands a year in transportation costs, because wouldn't have to eat the fuel costs, anymore. The diesel engine was initially developed from farmers to run off peanut oil. So, it's not a new concept.

Here is a site that sells conversion kits.

I deal with people all day long who make between 40-65 k a year. They drive a 40-45k{14-16mpg} SUV or a full-size pickup, rent their house and have very little cash on hand or invested. They're absolutely pathetic - And yes, you are correct, they are definitely a huge part of the problem…..

The television and all the garbage shows that are promoted is the unindicted conspirator, planting an illusion before them that they believe is the collective reality. The money you actually don’t have doesn’t matter, it’s only about a perceived status. The middle class is shrinking daily, and one of these mornings they're all going to wake up and come to grips with the real deal.

I'll see if I can find something, pahunk. I originally saw the story on CBS news, and I'm not sure how widespread it is.

Okay, here's one link, from NPR.

And here is another NPR link, answering some questions on why gas prices are what they are. Conspiracy theorists, prepare to have your feelings hurt lol.

GelertD -> RE: Gas!!!!!!! (7/9/2006 12:00:40 PM)

I've just done the maths and, having converted litres to gallons and Sterling to US Dollars...

It's $6.70 a gallon round here at the moment.

gentlethistle -> RE: Gas!!!!!!! (7/9/2006 12:06:19 PM)

Right.  I get seriously fed up with being told how expensive vehicle fuel is now in the United States when it has been vastly more expensive in the UK for years.  And you know what...people still won't give up their cars or significantly moderate their use.   Even if fuel prices doubled again I doubt that people would...but maybe, just maybe there'd then be sufficient financial incentive to speed up the development of alternative technologies.
