The whole premise of this thread was for no other reason than to derail the debate on the abuse that has been covered up for decades, or even centuries, by the Catholic Church.

I learned a long time ago that the best way to avoid having your kids molested by the catholic church is not to buy into catholicism, sadly you are once again forgetting to note the severity and scope of offense, what you are describing is an issue with a religion, what we're describing is an issue that faces entire nations that are controlled by a religion. Last time I checked the catholics didn't have the political clout to make priests diddling their sunday school charges legal as is the case in what we're discussing.

We here are able to marry legally at aged 16 - still below your quoted age of 18. Would you classify that as pedophilia and rape? Many other countries and cultures are also legally allowed to marry before aged 18. In Poland, Romania, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Indonesia, Argentina and Peru, the legal age is 16. In Mali, Benin, Niger, DRC, Cameroon, Iran, Costa Rica and Gabon, it's 15. In Bolivia, Venezuela, Mexico, Mozambique and Madagascar, it's 14. Equatorial Guinea is 12. Across India and other muslim countries, being betrothed before teenage years is very common and accepted in that culture.
