Bug zappers are awesome! I love using them, however I have not found a submissive yet who enjoys them. Yes, it you hit both nipples at the same time you can make a person's heart skip a beat as i discovered. While co-doming my friend and I both hit the guy's nipples with bug zappers at the same time. He jumped and yelped (much to our delight) and said that his heart had skipped a beat. So we resigned ourselves to zapping him below the belt area. Just as much fun and yelp potential there and possibly a little safer.

Safety first!

I appreciate that you might have regarded that thread as an "ever so domly pissing contest", but I would ask you to reflect on the possibility that darkfeather and I may have been attempting to correct some very silly nonsense.

Try it! ..take one for the team! ;)

Hi Perky,

The amount of energy produced by the hand held tennis racket style bug zappers is relatively low, and as they're designed to catch flies the current only travels a very short distance (the positive and negative tracks are typically only a few millimetres apart). While these little fuckers produce up to 1500 volts, they do so at very very low current in any case (on account of some pretty rigorous testing / safety regulation).

It is fantastically unlikely that one could directly cause a heart attack, for example. Since pretty much zero current would make it into your actual body.

That isn't to say that being shocked by one couldn't provoke a heart attack mind you - Jumping into cold water can cause enough physical shock to cause a heart attack, and if someone is suddenly surprised it's conceivable that they could have a heart attack.

They do produce enough current to stun and then, with sustained use, fry a fly, so there may be a risk of minor localized burning.

So... if you wanted to kill someone, you'd probably have more luck by beating them with it, or making them swallow it than zapping them with it.

Oh and yeah, I used to have one when I lived in Boston - and it was frikken awesome.

I called it stupidity, but I got modslapped for it, heh

If I remember that thread and the main posters correctly, what you are calling the "very silly nonsense" was coming from an electrical engineer. So I stand by "pissing contest", though I'm happy to delete the "domly" part.

I seriously think you should put the quotes around "electrical engineer" instead of pissing contest, silly nonsense or domly for that matter, in that sentence

Spiritedsub2 -> RE: electric bug zappers (5/10/2014 8:32:45 AM)

Instead of the innuendo, if your point is that he is not an electrical engineer, why don't you just say that directly?

Well, I had a nice well thought out response to this. Something about how I would love to call "a person" (have to be vague here) what they really are. But for some reason the word "idiot" keeps getting snagged by the word filter. So I have to try and find another word for idiot, something that means idiot, but not actually saying idiot. I mean just saying idiot seems to get me in trouble, so I really have to find another word, so give me a few minutes to think of one and I'll get back to ya... Hmmm, something that rhymes with idiot maybe?

Moderator3 -> RE: electric bug zappers (5/10/2014 10:05:56 AM)

You know, you may wish to test Mother Nature, but it isn't wise to test a testy mod.

question? is it safe to try and use an electric bug zapper on a nipple or clit? the zapper is the one that looks like a racket. just curious.

As many have mentioned, you might want to be very careful about ele tricity near the heart, especially if there are other risk factors.

Otherwise, another thing to consider is that, unlike other "shockers" sold for sex play, the bug zappers can actually burn if you are not carefull.

I have seen a great mod to the tennis racquet te style zapper, replacing the racquets part with two probes coming right of the handle. Much easier to get the shock in to tight spaces :)

Electricity to the heart, electricity to the heart... [sm=beatdeadhorse.gif]. Oh no, keep that 9 volt battery away from me, I have a heart condition!

You might find a violet want to be much more interesting that repurposing what is a flimsy novelty item.

Violet wands are definitely more fun... But hundreds of dollars! The zappers are good fun for the price.

Portable external cardiac defibrillators use 7.5 volt batteries. The issue is not battery voltage alone. Perhaps there is no possibility of danger with a bug zapper... But if someone is concerned and not certain if it is safe, erring on the side of prudence just seems smart.

We have been over and over this topic until my arms hurt. Look, apparently what I and others have been saying just don't sway people because they don't believe the source. I mean I ain't no "electrical engineer". Actually I studied mechanical engineering. But what I am, is a licensed electrician. I actually worked with real electricity, the kind that does kill you. So believe me when I say I know what I am talking about. It fascinates me when people have this abhorrent fear of electricity. Like if you look at it funny, it will jump out and kill you. I have seen people cringe just looking at house wiring. But electricity is just like any other deadly thing, give it the respect it deserves, and you are safe. Actually its more the amps that kill you than volts. So no matter how high the voltage something is, if it has low amps, it has very little chance of actually killing. Hurting, god yes. Killing no. Even house current, I have been shocked countless times. When apprenticing under my grandfather (he used to call it the idiot phase) whenever I would touch a hot wire accidentally, he would call it the cheap line detector. Did it hurt, hell yes, my arm would go numb, and would tingle for a few minutes. Did I die on the spot, uhm apparently not since I am typing this message now. And that was 120 house current. We are talking about bug zappers and TENS units here, way less in power than house current. Look, you can believe me or not. But I would rather believe something I actually had proof in, not just err on the side of caution. If these devices were as "dangerous" as you say they are, wouldn't there be one documented case of an injury, death, maim, dismemberment, bloody nose, etc? Guess what, there is none. It doesn't exist. Why, because these devices are tried, tested, tested again, and then tested again. They are so safe before they are released to the general public, you are more in danger driving your car than using a TENS unit. But people still tout the same line, don't use one above the heart, without actually asking the question, why? Where is the proof, evidence? Be it on yourself to believe in something without such things

Bhruic -> RE: electric bug zappers (5/12/2014 1:30:32 PM)

I was addressing only your comment implying the harmlessness of 9 volt batteries and pointing out that, with the right equipment, a 7.5 volt battery can defibrillate your heart.

I am a gaffer in the film industry, and worked for years as an electrician. I know plenty about the kind of electricity that can kill you in that context too. But I know nothing about electronics and the workings of capacitors, and even less about the mechanism of the SA and AV nodes of the heart... Therefore I err on the side of safety. Others can do as they see fit.

So, all that about finding out information on the topic for yourself, getting the truth, not just saying the mantra... All that just didn't resonate with you at all huh. And once again, its not the volts, its the amps

I am aware it's not the voltage alone and the amperage matters... I was, again, responding to your original comment about voltage and batteries.

And yes... Research and the pursuit of knowledge and information does resonate with me. However, the opinions of anonymous forum posters is, at best, the begining of the journey toward knowledge, not - at least for me - the end of it.

Then you must acknowledge that in order to correctly respond to said comment about batteries, it is not the voltage, it is the amps that kill. Simply to say a 7.5 Difb can kill is not correct, since it is the amps of the device, not the voltage in fact killing, correct? As for me being anonymous, that is your call on the validity of information presented
