I didn't think so but just for the heck of it, I looked it up on the PBS website and it said "Marines and soldiers" so I assume it means Army as well. And it was Pres. Buchanan at the time.

He was a Colonel according to the article. Could he have ever guessed at that point what his destiny was?

The only soldier boys there were lee and stuart and lee didn't even have his uniform on. His rank at the time was major but he held a brevet(temporary) commission to colonel. Lee offered the local militia the opportunity to show their metel but they declined.
It was lt.green and his knuckle draggers who solved the problem in less than five minutes.

Clearly both sought out an armed confrontation with the federal govt.???

Status: offline 		Well let us hope Uncle Sam shows 'due diligence' on this one, since there are thousands of these nut cases out there, and any sign of weakness will only goad them into thinking their psychodrama is the new realpolitik. Remember that John Brown was only the first spark in what became a conflagration which nearly destroyed this country. Act now - convince these psycho-crackers that their shit only buys them a messy end - and it could prevent something no sane person wants.

Status: offline 		Look, I have long raged against right wing extremist militias and the various movements they represent, but I have to point out the following:

1) there have been no armed checkpoints set up on public roads, highways

2) with the exception of an incident at an LDS church, since the BLM backed off, there have been no armed confrontations with law enforcement.

3) despite reports to the contrary, made by democrat senators and congressmen, and backed up by liberal websites that are doing the same bullshit as infomars and before its news, there have been no confirmed acts indicating an armed insurrection is actually going on.

So why I do believe there is more than enough justification for a DOJ move on the property and its occupants, strictly on violations of court orders and preventing agents of the government from doing their duty, there is no justification for an armed military move on the Bundy ranch.

What I think is funny is that there are people quoting liberal webpages that are no better than Limbaugh, Beck and others, while they complained about those pundits being quoted as fact by conservatives.

I posted a confirmed instance in the other thread where the militia goons stopped a rancher on a public highway with guns drawn. That is certainly way past legal.
