kry,

thanks for your reply. and i agree, i will not change who or what i am in public, on the boards, in the community or in private. but i will have to agree to disagree on "R" and "P" being discussed in a public venue or on public boards.

nods, so I see, although as I mentioned My experiences, and polls were conducted only amongst r/t Goreans, not among a generalized crowd of those who practice BDSM

Doesn't matter what you vote or don't vote. This isn't a democracy, When the site admin decide it shouldn't be discussed they will change the rules and the Modkins will inforce it. Till then it will be discussed and if you don't want to take part, simply avoid those threads.

Hello,

i recently visited another thread called "The 10 Commandments Of....", so that i do not hyjack that thread i have created a new one to have Y/you vote and post Y/your comments on.

Question:

Do Y/you feel it is appropriate to mix Religion, Politic's and the Lifestyle in public venues or on public boards?

Or is that something that Y/you feel should be left up to E/each P/person or Family to participate in of their own free will, time and place and kept as a Private belief, priveledge or association?

The board has a section for these types of posts, so I see no problem. I think anyone who is of healthy mind is looking for a ''well rounded'' individual. If all they know, understand or are concerned with is related to the ''lifestyle'', how grounded are they in reality?

My family is very important to me..... and if I bring a lady home to meet and have dinner with them and she has no conception of the world around her, my sisters are giving me evil looks and my father is thinking that she's a ding dong. So, I would tell you that my favorite posters and the types of people I want to meet, are those who are ''well rounded'' and up to date/ cognizant of their surroudings. The ''off topic'' section of the board is a great assessment tool as far as I'm concerned.

Thank You, but what if the subject keeps coming up in a public lifestyle venue, not a off topic one, How do You feel about that if i may ask?

Butting in here ...... I would say if it bothers one, use the block button. No one forces anyone to read any post here.

I think that whether most do it on an intentional basis or not.. our P and R views probably come into play a lot on the boards and in public venues.  Personally, I like to hear others views on the two subjects and will likely disagree with them when I feel the need.  It would get a bit boring if the only thing we discussed on the boards was a kink or something of that nature..the other discussions actually help me to get to know someone outside of just whether needles are a limit for them or not.

The "lifestyle" if full of democrats.. republicans..christians, wiccans..and what have you.. .I think it's good to see the diversity that shows on the boards..that although we may not have every thing in common..we can still get along.. converse..debate..and offer advice here and there.

I voted: I'm tired of others pushing their religion down my throat.

However that includes you trying to push your opinion that these things should not be discussed in  BDSM lifestyle forum down my throat as well.
If such things bother you then by all means, don't read them, however kindly don't try to prevent those of us who are not bothered by such topics from reading them.
The examples you gave (the music & insensitive coworker) are not relevant to these forums, as you really had little choice but to be subjected to those intrusions, however nobody makes you come to CM, and nobody makes you read any particular thread, so if people want to wax all rhapsodical about their particular variant of a saviour, it is their choice....and it is everybody else's choice to either ignore or agree, or to flame/belittle...that is what freedom of choice means, we each get to choose for ourselves.

Personally I find the idea of restricting what topics we are allowed to discuss here to be far more disturbing than the most fire-and-brimstone bible-thumping Jesus-loves-you rant.

We are all people, regardless of our lifestyle.  With that comes religion or lack thereof, and political views or lack thereof.  When I make friends in the lifestyle, or even want to get to know someone as a whole person, I believe that exchanging views and opinions on a very broad variety of topics is necessary, including politics and religion.

As for religious and political debate in these forums, there is a reason for the off-topic section.  We are all adults, and hopefully broad-minded.  I see no reason why we shouldn't be allowed to discuss these topics like adults as we do any others.

Since this is a discussion abut not-discussing, I have several points to discuss...

To begin with, the main reason the Kristianoids are in power is that not enough Non-religious-Nuts, sane people do discuss religion and politics!!! The Kritianoids do, and that's why Politicians listen to them! DUH!!!

Secondly, the poll doesn't have a box for Atheists/Agnostics who DO want to "hear" about religion (as in "stay informed about what the enmey is up to").

Of course I don't want to have it shoved down my throat! Double duh!

Again, avoiding the subject isn't going to make it (and its effects on you) disappear!

Jezabel's comment re: the J-thumping restaurant: I trust you never went back! [I can't imagine any restaurant in California getting away with that!) As for your sister's co-worker: he will be strangled by hos own hemorrhoids (let's hope and, ha ha, pray)... The very presence of the Born-Agains disproves the theory of so-called Intelligent Design! (I think god is talking to his lawyers about a defamation suit...)

As for respecting all the rights and beliefs of others , I make no apology about utter disagreement with that!!! Pita: consider the extremists in any religion, the arseholes of extremist christianity, Islam, Judaism, the theological nazis that would burn you at the stake without a moment's hesitation: you respect that??!?!! Are you THAT much of a masochist, lol?

I grew up catholic and they lost me by the time I was 7 (right after I started reading newspaper headlines: coincidence, lol?)... I actually have no problem with the various gods, it's those who love them too hard that I can't abide! Think of all the people who have been hunted down, enslaved, tortured and killed in the name of some god or another (if there is a god, he has been puking at the sight of it)...

The oldest profession is not prostitution, it's the priesthood,! Followed by their spawn, the politicians...

My diatribe is now over; we return you to your reg-g-g-gurarly scheduled programming...

Don't much care if your name is beetlejuice it STILL doesn't change the fact that this is NOT a damn democracy. Have fun, don't bother letting us know how it turns out because it is meaningless.

You didn't have a option I could check. My 'religion' and political affiliation are the same - Devout Pragmatist.

The only time "pushing" effects an object or a person is if the person or object is weaker than the force being applied. In the case of a person "pushing" should help strengthen convictions, or point out that they are based upon erroneous data or assumptions. Debating with someone with opposing views is the only way to find out how well your "facts" hold up against contradicting "facts". Debate is healthy.

When it resorts to name calling it's over - the insulting party loses. In my opinion, they surrendered to the facts of the other side and no longer could debate on a factual basis. Ultimately most debates end in a stalemate, with the parties agreeing to disagree and sharing a beverage of choice together. If you have confidence to match your commitment anger and frustration should never boil over. I find the most extreme counter opinions to be the most fun to challenge.

I welcome challenges, enjoying when a new concept is raised to surf the net researching my 'facts' and contradictory one. The internet is the ultimate 'no win' source of information on both sides of any debate. You learn much more about a person and a subject when you disagree. Learning something new every day is a personal goal.
