Hello,

i recently visited another thread called "The 10 Commandments Of....", so that i do not hyjack that thread i have created a new one to have Y/you vote and post Y/your comments on.

Question:

Do Y/you feel it is appropriate to mix Religion, Politic's and the Lifestyle in public venues or on public boards?

Or is that something that Y/you feel should be left up to E/each P/person or Family to participate in of their own free will, time and place and kept as a Private belief, priveledge or association?

Mix away. I love being able to go from a discussion on the economy to one of the validity of the Bible to one on orgasm control. The local group list I belong to discourages anything other than bdsm/kink, and it can get old talking about the same ol' same ol'.

Littlepita -> RE: Religion, Politics and The Lifestyle In Public Venues or Public Boards (7/9/2006 8:18:43 PM)

I have no problem expressing my religious or political views. Nor do I have any problem with someone expressing theirs. I'm very comfortable in what I feel is right for my life and even if I don't agree with someone else I respect their choice in what works for them.

grins, you already know My feelings...

reticence -> RE: Religion, Politics and The Lifestyle In Public Venues or Public Boards (7/9/2006 10:36:34 PM)

I have no problem discussing my religious or political beliefs in a forum such as this.  I rather enjoy listening to the beliefs of others.

Everyone in this household is a preachers child,  with that said W/we are VERY much against discussions of  Religion and since it is very closely related Politics in any public venue or on a public board. Why? Fredom of choice? Isn't that what America's founding fathers wanted? The freedom to or not to have that choice? Let's just say after having Religion "shoved" down our throat our whole entire life........let's just say W/we all don't like the taste of it. If Y/you do like the taste of it by all means enjoy, just don't force others to go along for the taste test.  And Politics, it's not because W/we are not political or patriots, Master served His Country for 4 tours, 16 years. W/we are very patriotic, but you can never see eye to eye with anyone on Politics or Religion so they are best topics to leave alone in a public venue unless you want to start a flame war.

Now with that being said, W/we are not talking about the discussion of the subject as presented in this poll, but some of .....but not limited to the following examples:

1. We were at Cracker Barrel and they were playing heavy "church" music. W/we did not go there to have a religious experience, W/we went there to eat and were subjected to song after song after song about "G" and "J". When W/we approached the Manager about changing the selection, or lowering it, his response was why? Don't you have "G" or "J" in your life? I'm sorry but the music is piped in from Cracker Barrel home office and I can't change it.  Let's reverse the situation what if W/we were Jewish, Catholic, Wiccan, Budist or Atheist? Excuse me can you play a budist chant?   A vanilla example in the general public.

2. my slave sister was at work, and got the news that i was ill and was taken to the hospital, after being in the hospital a week a co-worker made the statement to her well if she had "G" or "J" in her life maybe she would not be sick and in the hospital for a week. "G" and "J" are punishing her for her "alternative lifestyle" and her "wild and wicked ways". A vanilla example in the work place.

3. When someone label's their post as "The 10 commandments of" you immediately associate it with the bible, and "M" coming down from the mountain and it turns out to be a post on the Gorean lifestyle and kajira's. A lifestyle example in a public forum.

I guess all W/we are saying is there is a time and a place, and that time or place is not in public or a public venue.

I am just making a statement that Religion, Politics and This Lifestyle should NOT be mixed in a public venue or forum, some things are private, and should be kept that way.

This is NOT a flame War.
This is NOT a place to Discuss "Religion" or to "Preach"
This is NOT a place to Discuss "Politics"

This is a site that embraces the BDSM lifestyle...........can't we have one place to be lifestyle?

We all have choices,  where to go out to eat, with whom we associate..

As far as this forum, you choice is only limited by the distance of the off button to your finger.

Why is it a chore not to click on the thread entitled "Ten Commandments..." ?  I think if it is really damaging to you to be around religious or political topics, you can choose which threads to click .. if you do encounter such things within a thread that has been hijacked by such ... you can close it immediately.  If topics such as this were banned entirely, i would not have the freedom of choice to read them.  It is much easier for you to avoid them than it would be for some of us to enjoy them if they were not allowed.

IronBear -> RE: Religion, Politics and The Lifestyle In Public Venues or Public Boards (7/9/2006 10:54:37 PM)

I have serious objections to folks attempting to thrust their beliefs down my throat often with the hope of converting me.. I'll list to them once and I will explain that I am not a political beast and that i am an ordained pagan priest. If they decide to still attempt to convert me I will patiently and pleasantly point out that I have just informed them what I am and that to continue to attempt me is both rude and disrespectfull to my beliefs and to me as a person. I will ask them to stop.. If they don't get the message I have alternative methods of disuading them - some peacefull and some of wich may result them spending the night in the lockup. Other methods are best described as being both legal and painfull.... I prefer the peacefull and pleasant methods myself however once they cross the line all bets are off as are the gloves..

To answer the OP fully. I have friends with who we have an agreement that we do not discuss religion. In other cases it depends on who is there and where we are but generally most people kow I'm proudly pagan and that I have an alternative lifestyle.. They ask questions, I'll answer them.

Iron Bear,

i would have to agree with You on folks attempting to thrust their beliefs down my throat.  "R" and "P" are private matters and should be kept to yourself or your home, not in public venues. and if i wanted to be converted, i choose to be a mustang convertable.....just being funny.

We do live an alternative lifestyle, one that is often frowned upon by "most" "R" and "P" views. For example Texas just passed a law that banned same sex marriage or partnerships. Texas also just got rid of the "Common Law" marriage....... that is a "P" view and it can also be a "R" view.

It would be nice to have one place, to come and just be a "Alternative Lifestyle" and leave on the "P" and "R" behind closed doors.

When in the right mood and right company I will happily discuss our various political and theological PoV's with other rational adults. I've done so many times, especialy theological, in inter-faith discussions with Christians, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, fellow Pagans.

What I have no time or tolerance for is fundamentalist assholes who try to 'convert' all and sundry. I have strong views and I express them strongly... I've no problem with people disagreeing with me but hopefully they bring their sense of humour along too... I'm quite capable of taking the piss out of my own beliefs, let alone other folks.

i don't know jez, i remember a dinner where religion was very much at the fore of the discussion for a good half hour...

Of course, there are a ton of boards here, and to a fair degree, the subject matter is divvied up between kink, non-kink, polls, etc. Yes it gets mixed at times, life is not some easily divided la-la land, and it any post at CM got zapped due to straying from some rigid and narrow bdsm smell test, it'd get damn boring around here.

cuddleheart50 -> RE: Religion, Politics and The Lifestyle In Public Venues or Public Boards (7/10/2006 3:20:50 AM)

I don't like to discuss Politics or Religion, I have stong views on both.  And I get really upset when people try to change my views, so I keep those opinions to myself....safer that way..lol

Absolutely.  They are important issues to some people and a part of who they are.  Just because I don't agree with how someone mixes things in their house, doesn't mean I don't think they should be allowed to discuss it publicly.  Like how some people mix Gor and BDSM for instance.

I don't change who or what I am based on the words of someone else on a message board.

IronBear -> RE: Religion, Politics and The Lifestyle In Public Venues or Public Boards (7/10/2006 5:20:49 AM)

Just to be completely off topic and because I'm in a silly frame of mind as I head to bed, I could comment that if "R" and "P" stand for Rooting (as in fucking) and Pissing then it sound like a satisfactoty plan for anal sex where after you cum, having a good piss inside (uring enema) will fluch the tadpolls out........

chantrea,

yes the topic was in a private home, not a public venue or board. O/our objections is discussing "R" and "P" in public venues or forums. and if you remember the topic was very uncomfortable  for everyone present and changed several times. also if you remember the offending party was talked to about making O/others feel uncomfortable and the results was a 24 hr seen and not heard day for the offending party.
