I've been at the range and watched a guy try to shoot ammo a guy at Walmart sold him when he did just as you suggest you do. It didn't fit the gun He'd specifically told the Walmart dude he had. I had an extra box of ammo with me that fit his gun so I gave it to him in order that his day not be totally fucked up. On the other hand, I used to hunt with a guy, now deceased, who owned a gun store. I spent a lot of time in the store. I feel very confident that if you walked into the store and did as you suggest, you'd walk out safe. However, may I suggest, it's required by law that on the barrel of your gun the exact caliber of the gun must be stamped. Just read that, write it down and show it to the bullet salesman. Also, generally you should compare what's stamped on the barrel to what you are about to shoot. If it doesn't say the same thing, don't shoot it. As a third check, if you're not shooting 22 ammo or military ammo, the caliber of the bullet is stampe on the base of the bullet and that should match what's stamped on the barrel of your gun. There are some exceptions but if you run into one, just go to a gun store and ask someone who knows why.

You may enter onto my property with one handgun, namely your hi-standard TX 9252, but with no bullets or other weapons of any kind.
