truckinslave -> Iraq (6/12/2014 1:20:32 AM)

I said before the invasion of Iraq that a democratic, peaceful Iraq was the world's last best hope of avoiding war- real, honest-to-God, kill-every-damned-one of them war.
I stand by that. Anyone who denies the real possibility of WW3 being, basically, World vs Islam is imo living in a dream world.
So. Now that Iraq has almost become, and clearly will become (along with Libya) a training ground for terrorists and an exporter of terrorist violence, what should we do? When the next attack against America comes from Iraq, what should we do? Should we wait for the second, third, or fourth attack? The 15th? Should we wait to destroy them until they use nukes against us?

We should revisit the circumstances of our precipitous exit from Iraq, of course, and punish at the polls all those who supported it (should "it" be: "him"?); but what should we do when Iraq attacks us?

In that event, I suggest a few million tons of ordinance ... turn the whole place into a huge oil platform and take what we want.

That's how the Muslim world views us, anyway. If they give us the name, we might as well play the game.

Screen captures still RULE! Ya feel me?

This is a demented statement. It's striking how it comes out of such a folksy tone.

Indeedies!

To assert that a country in the throes of a vicious internal conflict, two continents away from the USA, with no means of getting to the USA apart from hijacking the odd aircraft, a country with a population one tenth that of the USA (c35 million) with no arms industry of its own might "attack" the USA, the world's foremost military power, takes some imagination - a very delusional paranoid one.

There's a greater chance of little me getting elected as the next Pres of the US than an Iraqi invasion - and I am constitutionally disqualified from being elected by virtue of not being a US citizen. Drink some pure water and cool down truckin slave, and, whatever you are on stop taking it!

With what was above this line being only so much neocon fear-mongering...it deserves no response, We take the rest with the proper rewording.

The American people should revisit our precipitous invasion of Iraq based on lies by the Bush admin. and punish at the polls all who supported it mainly in congress, the chief perpetrators now being out of office and there being no grand jury.

Plus it is or should be painfully obvious to anyone that could manage any objective fear of Iraq, the CIA could have taken down Saddam the same way we took the Iraqi leadership down in 1952 and set up his rise to power in the first place.

Iraq is not going to attack the US. More likely, the CIA will arrange something and blame it on whoever they feel should be our next enemy...probably Iran and because no admin, is likely to satisfy [it] on any diplomatic progress or because...they feel like it and greater oil and war profits.

Try not to giggle.

Maybe we could let France and the UK take care of the "light work." They are, afterall, bound to defend any attacked NATO country, and they seem to be a might bit closer to Iraq.

Once Iraq has been sent to the corner buttsore (and not in a good way), we figure out what allowed Iraq to attack us and close that hole in our defense system.

cloudboy -> RE: Iraq (6/12/2014 9:52:15 AM)

Do you have passport? Where outside the USA have you traveled? Have you ever traveled to IRAQ? Do you speak Persian or Arabic? Have you lived anywhere in the Middle East for 4 months or more?

There's a big difference between reality and wishful, ethnocentric thinking.

-------

The biggest takeaway I remember from the IRAQ war how the USA pulled Saddam Hussein out of a hole in the ground. That's where he was hiding. My friends and I dug out such a fort when we were 13 years old.

When I saw this is where Saddam was hiding -- I knew the BUSH administration had lied and exaggerated the "IRAQ Threat."

The fact was / is: NO WMD. Iraq helped check IRAN's influence.

This.

Iraq doesn't have anything close to what it would need to do this.

He never reads any posts critical of him -- because there's a legion of us hidden away by his HIDE button.

Right, they're not in the same league as Afghanistan

mnottertail -> RE: Iraq (6/12/2014 10:36:11 AM)

And Afghanistan has nothing close either. In both cases you gotta go to them to be attacked.

Well then, you're an idiot, then and now, and stand by it.

Bush the Elder was right -- achieve our objectives, leave the stable situation. Bush Junior had neo-cons spewing bullshit in his ear. The mess there now (Obama is just his lapdog on this one) is his (and Rumsfeld/Cheney) handiwork. We were in Iraq because they wanted to attack something and we could get away with it in Iraq.

If there's any truth at all to your doomsday fantasy, the situation will center around Iran/Syria/Russia. Yup -- economic, not Islamic. In fact Saudi Arabia would oppose that faction, as would other Arab states.

Nope. Only two. You're not one of them. Neither is MM. Or Tweak. I think all three of you are sane.

I don't think the two are, really.

DS is the one with a legion hidden away, not you. He might not see about 20 posters in the politics section. His head is in deep in the sand.

What a load of Islamophobic bollocks. Nothing else can describe the contents of your post adequately. Nice to see you speak of a precipitous exit from Iraq when you were clamouring for Obama to bring the troops home. I take it your tail was tweaked by the thread rightly pointing out how Bush and Blairs venture into regime change has worked out.

Learn some history. The Taliban had no input into Osama Bin Ladens plans and no input, come to that, nor did Iraq.

Really? You're serious? Would destroying the economy of the US qualify as "this"?

You are aware that we lost control of hundreds of SAMs in Iraq and Libya? In 2002 I stood on a hill 20 miles from Hartsfield and counted 11 visible airliners.

There are thousands and thousands of RPGs in every conflict in the world. I made notes for a couple of years of the oil refineries and chemical plants sitting within 100 yards of interstates....

Think it would be hard to smuggle the weapons in? Two words. Drugs. Kids.

Blow up a few dams at the same time as the airline and refinery attacks.....

No WMD required.....
