When members are not being moderated or banned, the importance of some information being announced diminishes as we try to examine many things and decide what things are working best or how they can be improved. There is a lot to consider and of course, we want members to be happy with the forums, but the truth of the matter is, we cannot please everyone. That is unfortunate, but impossible to do. We don’t take all of this lightly and do consider what is said in emails from members, but if we went with every suggestion, no one would be able to post pictures of dogs doing what doggies do. We would have no member confidentiality or protections as many believe they should be able to expose those they feel are doing things they shouldn’t. How about the suggestion of opening discussion on volunteer staff to the point of abuse because they are not afforded the same protections against personal attack? That one worked well. Few would ever wish to volunteer for that! Then we have the suggestion that everything be up for discussion so that the members can decide what they want about many things. While I personally like input, when have the forum posters ever agreed on anything and when have all members felt free enough to express their opinions? Many have been afraid to post on the forums and we get mail about that too. Add to that, that if we go the direction of certain posters and not the others, we could be playing favorites! If staff is busy with threads such as this, because members each have something they wish to discuss about moderators or the forums, we cannot get much else done. Suggestions, email, the every day things that crop up and need to be done and pretty soon we have full time jobs and still we have complaints. lol Suggestions we welcome, but many that have suggestions often have an expectation that we will immediately do exactly what they want and when we don’t, they love to bring it to the forums in some manner. Some things need a lot of consideration and I will not be announcing anything before it is properly worked through. For the moment, any thread older than a year is subject to be locked unless it is an update and you can now be assured that at least two moderators won't make that mistake again. I prefer a more positive spin on educating moderators though.
