AthenaSurrenders -> What can I drink? (6/26/2014 12:35:37 PM)

I'm on a restricted diet for the time being. I'm having no problem coming up with tasty meals and I'm managing to resist the junk food but OH MY GOD I am so sick of only drinking water.

I like water but I'm dying for something with a bit of flavour. I normally drink sugar free squash all day long.

I'm not allowed added sugars or artificial sweeteners, or anything with more than a tsp or two of sugar per glass (so fruit juices are out). I'm also lactose intolerant.

I'm brewing some water kefir but it's going to be three days minimum. I can have peppermint tea but it's a bit warm and it tastes gross if you chill it.

Any splendid ideas or do I just need to suck it up and get used to it?

How about some lemonade, sweetened with just a smidge of stevia? Or is that type of sweetener off the menu, too?

Home-brewed iced tea with lemon

Ice water with lemon, lime, orange or cucumber slices.

All I drink is seltzer, it comes in a variety of flavors. I am talking about the seltzers and not the "sparkling water" or other such crap that has artificial everything in it. It is simply water and carbonation with natural orange, lemon-lime, or raspberry flavoring. I am sure there are a few other flavors that I am missing but I am partial to the orange. I find it largely satisfying and it has zero everything, calories, salt, sugar, fat etc.

I spent a long time at the store looking today but everything pre-made had either artificial sugars or a ton of actual sugar.

Stevia is technically allowed but the only brand I know of here also has Xylitol in it, which isn't.

I'll try slicing some lemons and oranges into the pitcher. I've never really enjoyed that much before but perhaps I can get used to it.

Yup. Since I cut Coke out of my life, I have lived on berry "flavored" Talking Rain sparkling spring water. It doesn't rally have much of a berry flavor but it has the berry scent which is nice.

Zevia, if it's available over there. I drink a mix of five or so parts of carbonated water and one part juice.

DesFIP -> RE: What can I drink? (6/26/2014 3:11:27 PM)

I've started chopping limes into eighths and drop one piece into my first glass of the day and just pour more water in as needed. The lime flavor seems to last all day.

Go old school
equal parts
Cider Vinegar
Water
Add a quarter to half part honey,
Add to taste: mint, and some citrus (squirt of either lemon or lime)

The history prof. that told me about this called it "Persian Gator Ade" but it was carried in canteens throughout the classical world from Xerxes to Rome. And, it rather tastes good

In....ter....est....ing.........

Although I'm wondering if the honey is prohibited...is it an outlawed sweetener?

MistressDarkArt -> RE: What can I drink? (6/26/2014 5:07:41 PM)

There are hundreds of flavored herb teas available. Try over ice, with a pinch of stevia.

There are many brands of stevia w/no xylitol. Look online if you can't find it locally.

I don't know if you want to 'go savoury', but if so: a spoonful of Marmite heated up in peeled plum tomato juice, with black pepper and thyme to taste. My gravy, that is, minus the flour. So fortifying you'll feel like you can go out afterwards and kick a Land Rover into the air.

This. He nailed it. And there's a whole bunch of different flavors.

It's also filling.

CrazyHarleyQuinn -> RE: What can I drink? (6/26/2014 8:55:10 PM)

What about trying to find Hint water in your area? It's fruit/other natural flavored water, with no added sugar. It's actually really good.
I used to get it for free, because my ex works at Google, and they get free food (which, technically, you aren't supposed to take out, but he sneaks it out).

DOM68005 -> RE: What can I drink? (6/26/2014 9:15:54 PM)

You'd have to double check, but I sometimes go on binges of private label Ensure type products. I go for the 250 calorie varieties.

lovethyself -> RE: What can I drink? (6/26/2014 11:57:25 PM)

FR,

Athena, there are lots of fruity flavoured teas out there. If you go to a specialty tea place, they can usually steer you in the right direction for ones that still taste good iced. I've been making my own iced tea for a while now instead of juice and I've found that the right teas don't even need sugar. I tend towards the tart, fruity types, so hybiscus is in a lot of the ones in my cupboard.

A note, most iced teas want to be brewed really strong. The lack of heat seems to detract from some of the punch of the flavour.

JstAnotherSub -> RE: What can I drink? (6/27/2014 5:49:30 AM)

I have been drinking a lot of water and putting frozen berries in it helps me. Strawberries, blueberries, whatever I can find on sale. As they melt, the flavor really is awesome.

KYsissy -> RE: What can I drink? (6/27/2014 6:17:53 AM)

We make iced tea and swap out a couple of the regular tea bags with Chai tea bags.
