joether -> US Supreme Court rules on Labor Issue... (6/30/2014 11:10:30 AM)

The issue was whether or not a Union within a company can force employees that do not wish to be part of the Union, Union dues? Since those employees would directly benefit from the efforts/actions of the Union on contracts for all employees, the Union's position is that those people should share some of the burden of costs. Those bring the case forward argue they should not be forced to pay because they are not in the Union.

SOURCE

While a narrow win for conservatives whom hate Unions; I find this will just change how the Union argues for contracts and employment in the future. They'll simply demand they have as much right to a new hire as management. An the Union will just ask the question: "Do you support the Union?" When the answer is 'no', the potential candidate is axed from the final list of hires.

Its a narrow lost that will be changed in future interactions with management of a company.

.....except in right-to-work states. I worked in Va. a RTW state and enjoyed all of the benefits of the union...without joining the union or paying union dues negotiated in Md., a non RTW state. This is an old retry and it failed again.

Look, this is America where the only important thing to remember is that to collectively bargain for $30/hr, is being greedy while a CEO making $30 million a year...is not. Got it ?

Ja, lotta free riders out there, I believe the union should specifically exempt those people in contract, bargaining, grievance, and all other issues, and if anything goes upside down, say, hey fuck it......on your own pal.

That was not the issue. This went to court because a woman in Illinois was being forced to join a union. SEIU I believe, while caring for her disabled son at home. She felt she shouldn't have to do so and the high court agreed with her.

mnottertail -> RE: US Supreme Court rules on Labor Issue... (6/30/2014 11:36:50 AM)

No, she was not forced to join a union. Read for comprehension, acertaining actual facts.

subrob1967 -> RE: US Supreme Court rules on Labor Issue... (6/30/2014 1:26:02 PM)

The SEIU tried to force hef to pay union dues, not join the union. Not that it matters at this point

servantforuse -> RE: US Supreme Court rules on Labor Issue... (6/30/2014 1:30:36 PM)

He new what I meant. It was a very good ruling for the average worker out there. SEIU would have done absolutely nothing for these people except take their money every month.

mnottertail -> RE: US Supreme Court rules on Labor Issue... (6/30/2014 1:48:38 PM)

Yup, they would be working for minimum wage without SEIU.

servantforuse -> RE: US Supreme Court rules on Labor Issue... (6/30/2014 2:09:31 PM)

They are not SEIU members. They are doing very well without them.

mnottertail -> RE: US Supreme Court rules on Labor Issue... (6/30/2014 2:12:24 PM)

Yeah, horseshit, they are not doing well without them, they are free riders, your type of communists.

servantforuse -> RE: US Supreme Court rules on Labor Issue... (6/30/2014 2:29:06 PM)

The 'left' is all for freedom of choice, except for choosing to join a union.

mnottertail -> RE: US Supreme Court rules on Labor Issue... (6/30/2014 2:31:21 PM)

Nope, they got no problems with you joining or not joining. See, you 'right' are all for welfare checks and people who wont pay their fair share or whats owed.

servantforuse -> RE: US Supreme Court rules on Labor Issue... (6/30/2014 2:40:23 PM)

You are right about that. They don't care if you join or not. They just want the union dues .

Musicmystery -> RE: US Supreme Court rules on Labor Issue... (6/30/2014 3:21:03 PM)

If they never do anything, why do conservatives fear them so?

servantforuse -> RE: US Supreme Court rules on Labor Issue... (6/30/2014 3:37:43 PM)

I don't fear them. I was a union member for 34 years. I also would have signed up without being forced to do so. What does union leadership fear if joining is truly a choice ? Maybe they will actually have to start doing something for the dues that are collected.

And the workers that don't want to pay the dues just want the union wages. And they want the union benefits. And they want the union backing if there is a labor dispute for being wrongfully fired, etc. But they want all that without having to pay to get it. They expect a free ride. Kinda sounds like what the people on the right say about welfare isn't it?

No, they are not. Home health workers are among the lowest paid workers in the country. Unionizing them got them pay raises and benefits. This dimwit has cost herself and her coworkers significant wages and benefits since SEIU can no longer afford to negotiate on behalf of these workers.
